
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on January 6, 1950, he was the son of Henry and Jean Bettman. Dan grew up with a love for sports and excelled in athletics, holding the shotput record at Lee Academy in Maine. He went on to attend Delhi Tech, where he earned an associate degree.
Dan was a dedicated worker and community member. He served as a supervisor at Burger King for 26 years and later retired as a custodial supervisor from SUNY Delhi. For over 18 years, he proudly owned and operated Pondo’s Restaurant, where he made many friends and memories.
A passionate bowler and longtime baseball umpire, Dan also enjoyed collecting coins, stamps, and baseball cards. His love for the game and his vibrant spirit were well known throughout the community.
Dan will be remembered most for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering willingness to help others. He made the world a better place simply by being in it, and he will be deeply missed by many.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane Bettman; his sons, Mica Thorsland and Rodney Thorsland; grandchildren, Abigail, Reece, and Amiley; and great-granddaughter, Theodora. He is also survived by three sisters and two brothers residing in Indiana, Tennessee, and Washington State.
