

Donald Gary Hulbert, 72, passed away in his home on June, 28, 2021, with family by his side, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Oneonta, NY, on March 26, 1949, the son of the late Donald C. and Geraldine (Timewell) Hulbert.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Patricia Hulbert. The two were married on November 10, 1967, in Mt. Vision, NY, and he was her love of a lifetime. He was a devoted husband, father and Papa and is survived by his son Robert “Bob” (Robin) Hulbert of Tallahassee, FL, daughter Shannon (Matthew) Rode of Wappinger’s Falls, NY, and daughter Kristin (Joshua) Decker of Cobleskill, NY; grandchildren, Caleb, Ezekiel, Leah, Madeline, Kaitlyn, and grand dogs, Maggie and Mia; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is survived by brother-in-law Ronald Wikoff and sister-in-law Brenda Hulbert, and was predeceased by his sisters, Sandra Falkner, Paula Wikoff, and Priscilla Galbreth, and his brothers, Ceylon Hulbert and Charles Hulbert, all of Laurens, NY.
Gary was a lifetime resident of Laurens and worked as a supervisor at Custom Electronics for twenty-five years. He was an avid outdoorsman, and along with the family dog Jasper, enjoyed hunting fowl and especially deer. Bow hunting, fishing, walking and four-wheeling on his property brought him great joy. He was skilled at target shooting and reloaded his own ammo. He was a member of the F-Class Rifle Target Shooting Team, where he made many lasting friendships. He enjoyed visits with family and friends, often having coffee with them on his orch. He and Patti made memorable trips to Montana, California, Florida, and Maine.
The family would like to thank Helios Care for their compassionate care for Gary during his last few weeks of life.
A funeral will be held at Bookhout Funeral Home in Oneonta, NY, on July 10, 2021, at 2:00PM with Pastor Paul Messner officiating. Calling hours will be held from 12:00-2:00PM on the same date and at the same location.
Memorial donations in Gary’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Laurens, NY.
