

Dorothea was born on June 7, 1942 in Bridgewater the daughter of the late John Henry and Leona Mae (Nichols) Grimes.
She married Frederick Philip Elmandorf, Sr. in 1976 in Delhi. He predeceased her on December 5, 2015.
Dorothea was employed at A.O. Fox Hospital as a RN and she was the first African American to become a supervisor. She was awarded the Thurgood Marshall special award. She taught aides and LPN’s through BOCES for 5 years and was a social worker at Otsego County Department of Social Services. For 8 years, she was a parent aide and also worked as a FEMA nurse.
Dorothea loved to knit and crochet afghans and shared them with her family. She loved playing cards, reading and taking trips to Hawaii, Florida, Maine, Colorado and Atlantic City just to name a few.
Dorothea is survived by her twin sons, Shawn (Amanda) Elmandorf and John Elmandorf; step children, Edward and Millie Elmandorf, Yvonne Elmandorf, Betty (Dave) Riley, Pamela (Keith) Wilber, Linda (Eric) Robbins and Phyllis (John) Banks.; siblings, Winifred, Heather, Yvonne, Terry and Keith; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter, Tammy (Elmandorf) Lints; step sons, Fred Elmandorf, Jr. and Arthur Elmandorf; and siblings, James, Edward, Aldia, Paul, Donald and Charlene.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Masks are required.
