Eleanor M. Monser

Eleanor Monser, 100, of Oneonta, passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.

Eleanor was born on October 15, 1912 in Brooklyn, the daughter of the late Shakir and Faduk (Israel) Ganim. She married Shane M. Monser on May 5, 1946 in Brooklyn. He predeceased her on August 18, 1992.

Eleanor worked as a clerk for Moody’s Investments in New York City until her marriage in 1946.

Eleanor was a member of St. Mary’s Church and the Living Water Faith Fellowship. She was a devoted Christian and prayer warrior who brought many people to the Lord. Her belief in the Lord led her to participate in several bible study groups. She was a former member of the Women’s AGLOW.

Eleanor had many interests including reading the bible, cooking, collecting recipes, playing rummy and was an avid reader. In later years, her joy was sitting on the front porch. She was a devoted wife and mother, and friend to many, and enjoyed the visits of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren

Eleanor is survived by her sons, William J. Monser, and his wife, Kathleen of Olsburg, Kansas and David S. Monser, and his wife, Suzannah of Oneonta; her daughter, Joan Williams of Pasadena, Maryland; her grandchildren, Kevin, Rebekah, Anthony, Phillip, Kristen, Brian, Amy, Michelle and Shane.

She is also survived by her 14 great grandchildren; her sister, Virginia, and her husband, Eddie and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, two sisters and two brothers.

A funeral mass will be offered on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at 10:15 am in St. Mary’s Church, 39 Walnut Street, Oneonta with the Rev David Mickiewicz, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Friends may call on Monday, December 10, 2012 from 5 to 7 pm at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta at which time the family will be in attendance.
