George R. Miller

He was born April 20, 1926 in Portlandville the son of the late Steven and Elizabeth (Bolos) Miller.

George proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII.

For many years, George was a car repairman for the D&H Railroad in Oneonta.

On September 29, 1956, George married Geraldine D. Bliss in Oneonta. Geraldine predeceased him on December 10, 1986.

George enjoyed gardening, watching sports on tv, attending family gatherings and going to play BINGO. He was very active and many nights after getting home from work George would spend his evenings helping his neighbors doing whatever they needed done. But what was most important to George was spending time with his family. He always treasured those moments.

George was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church.

George is survived by his three children, Sandra Wilson of Oneonta, Melody Miller of Oneonta and Kenneth (Liz) Miller of King of Prussia, PA; eight grandchildren, Lavonne Voorhees, Steven Voorhees, Bennae Boschetti, Annette Nutt, Georginia Butler, Tiffany Mein, Greg Miller and Kayla DeSilva; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; one brother, Joe Miller of Milford; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters and one brother.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 10:15 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 39 Walnut Street, Oneonta, with Rev. David Mickiewicz, officiating. Burial will follow in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery. The family requests that memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice in George’s memory.
