He was born July 8, 1941 in Oneonta the son of the late George and Rachel (Sobers) Smith.
George graduated from Oneonta High School and enter the US Army and proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged.
For many years, George worked at City Hall in the maintenance department until his retirement. He was the President of the local and regional CSEA union and was very active even in his retirement.
George is survived by his wife, Delores; three sons, George, Christopher and David; step daughter, Stephanie; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
