Gerard A. Wellman

He was born December 14, 1934 in Oneonta the son of the late Albert and Kalma (Nichols) Wellman.

He drove truck for Wilson Freight Company for 16 years. He was also a US Postal rural delivery driver for Hartwick for 16 years. For 24 years, he was the owner/operator of the Hartwick Garage.

Rod loved to hunt , fish and camp. He was an avid outdoorsman. He was also a lover of animals and cherished all his family pets.

He was a past chief and member of the Hartwick Fire Department and a lifetime member of the Hartwick Rod and Gun Club.

Rod is survived by his loving wife, Catherine (Platt) Wellman of Hartwick; two children, Bruce and Julie Wellman of Hartwick and Janet and Luis Fonseca of Rochester; seven grandchildren, Bruce, Jr., Brian, Kimberly, Luis, Eric, Christopher and Joshua; two great granddaughters, Skyler and Jaylee; one brother, Dennis Wellman of Laurens; one sister, Doris Blankenship-Wellman of Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son, David Wellman.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, October 10, 2011 at 11:00AM in the Hartwick Cemetery, Hartwick with the Reverend Laverne Saxer Pastor of the Hartwick Christian Church officiating. Immediately following there will be a reception at the Hartwick Fire Department. Memorial donations in Gerard’s name may be made to either the Hartwick Fire Department, Hartwick, New York 13348 or to the Hartwick Rod and Gun Club, Hartwick, New York 13348.
