

She was born April 26, 1941 in Delhi, the daughter of the late Clarence and Agnes (All) Dibble.
A lifelong area resident, Joan graduated from Oneonta High School the Class of 1960 where she was an art major. She loved to draw and mess around with clay,. After graduation she attended and graduated from Austin’s School of Cosmetology in Albany.
On September 25, 1960, Joan married Thomas Clifford Montgomery in Oneonta. Thomas predeceased her on April 17, 1973. Later Joan married Bernard Neal Stanley on May 26, 1986. Bernard predeceased her on September 27, 2016.
Joan operated a beauty parlor out of her home in Otego. She also owned and operated Sleepy Hollow restaurant and cabins in Richfield Springs and Nick’s Diner in Oneonta.
Joan was a 25 year breast cancer survivor. She LOVED Hallmark Movies but what was most important to Joan was her family. She cherished them and the time spent with them.
Joan is survived by her two daughters, Vicki and Kevin Fassett, East Springfield and Kristi and Thomas Swatling, Fly Creek; five grandchildren, Christopher Fassett, Daniel Fassett, Samantha Swatling and James Bouck, Jennifer and Steven Meyers and Garret Fassett; seven great grandchildren, Dustin, Britney, Peyton, Zarie, Addison, Tysen and Piper; one sister, Jean Buzie; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one sister, Rita Freeman.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta. Memorial services will immediately follow at 1:00 pm with Rev. Stephen D. Fournier officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations go to the Otego Fire Department, River Street, Otego, NY 13825 in loving memory of Joan I. Stanley.
