

He was born on July 11, 1925 in Pleasant Valley, NY, the son of Marshall and Abigail (Pectle) Hewlett. He married Gertrude Sherow in April of 1950. She predeceased him on June 30, 2004.
Robert was a WWII Veteran, serving his country in the Navy. A dairy farm owner, he operated Gretna Acres Dairy Farm in Otego along with his two sons, William & Richard.
Robert was a member of the Otego Presbyterian Church and a 70 year Grange member. He was also a 50 year member of Dairylea as well as a member for many years of the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed gardening.
Robert is survived by 6 children, William and Ellen Hewlett of Otego, Richard and Kathy Hewlett of Otego; Linda and Larry Gover of Gilbertsville, April and Bud Hubbard of Pleasant Valley, Marcia and James Mumford of Mt. Vision, and Lisa and Tom Hall of Otego; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a brother, Ike and Shirley Hewlett of Dover Plains; sisters, Ella Hampson of Southbury, CT, Betty Underhill of Poughkeepsie, and Barbara Bontempo of Littleton, CO; a sister in law, Laura Hewlett of Stuart, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by brothers and sisters, Howard and Connie Hewlett, Jean Wheeler, Allan Hewlett, Eleanor and Conrad Benson, Sam Hewlett, and Marshall Hewlett.
Friends are invited to greet the family on Sunday, June 11, 2017 from 5 to 7 pm at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta.
A funeral service will take place on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 2 pm at the Otego Presbyterian Church, River Street, Otego, with Rev. Douglas Horne officiating.
Burial will take place at a later date in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations in Robert’s memory are asked to be made to the Otego Fire Department, the NYS Veterans’ Home at Oxford, or the Otego Presbyterian Church.
