
Roger was born July 18, 1960 in Oneonta to Elmer and Juanita (Halstead) Barnes. During his younger years, Roger travelled the country. Upon returning to Oneonta, Roger worked with his brother Bobby on the garbage business his dad began.
Beginning in 1981, Roger began his longtime passion of driving demolition derby. He won many years (23) at the Otsego County Fair. The original #8 or 8 ball, Roger was also known as the “guru” of mopars. He taught many people including his step-sons the trade. They were able to accomplish winning State Fair championship, something Roger never die. This year, Roger was able to watch his granddaughter, Kalee run her first derby taking third place.
Roger was a free spirited person who never asked for anything but always gave. His help was very rarely without a smile.
Roger is survived by his mother, Juanita Ploutz, Oneonta; companion and soulmate, Suzanne Boman, Otego; daughters, Annemarie (Doug) Hoag, Morris, Jessica Barnes, Oneonta; step children, Robert Dixon, Otego, Shelly Stilson, Otego Timothy (Nicole) Stilson, Laurens; grandchildren, Kendra and Alexia Barnes, Mayson French, Kalee and Conner Stilson, Monica, Robert and Hunter; and a special cousin, Evelyn Griffin, Schenevus. He was predeceased by his father, Elmer, brothers, Robert and Bruce, step son, Jeffery Dixon as well as many aunts, uncles and friends.
At Roger’s request there will be no calling hours. His ashes will be interred in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery at a later date.
