Ruth Lois Barkewitz

She was born March 11, 1930 in Otego, New York, the daughter of the late William and Edith (Bowen) Sheldon.

Ruth married George F. Barkewitz on December 30, 1950 in Oneonta. George predeceased her on May 20, 1995.

For many years, she was an office worker at the Welch Livestock Market in West Edmeston.

Ruth spent 40 years in the Town of Plainfield, Otsego County at West Edmeston. She and her husband owned and operated a dairy-crop farm for many years. She enjoyed hay season, the outdoors and entertaining all her nieces and nephews.

She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in West Edmeston and later the West Oneonta Baptist Church.

Ruth is survived by several sisters-in-law, Irmabelle Sheldon, Otego, Charlotte Barkewitz, Cicero and Mary Barkewitz, Peru, IN; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Charles and George Sheldon and sister Flora Marlett.

Graveside services will be held at a later date at the West Oneonta Cemetery, West Oneonta.
