

He was born July 9, 1933, in Norristown, PA, the son of the late Thomas Aloysius and Marie E. (Baldwin) McGrath.
Tom graduated from West Catholic School for Boys, where he was a member of the crew team. He continued his education at the University of Pennsylvania and later at the University of Cincinnati, where he graduated with honors. He was a proud member of the Alpha Mega Fraternity.
With a lifelong love of water and sailing, Tom faithfully served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard, later becoming Commander of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Bethany, DE. He was also a devoted follower of Notre Dame Football and enjoyed many trips with his son, sons-in-law, and brother-in-law.
He was a member of the Otego American Legion.
A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Tom is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Jane; and his four children: Catherine Claire (Dale), Margaret Mary (Victor), Rose Marie, and Thomas Nicholas (Karen). He is also survived by his nieces Linda, Debbie, Michelle, and Margie, along with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Tom was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Elizabeth; his sister, Mary Lou; his grandson, Lucas Dale; his niece Christine; and his nephew Ricky.
Tom’s warmth, loyalty, and gentle humor touched every life he encountered. His kindness was steady and sincere, and his devotion to family unwavering. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his quiet strength, and the love he shared so naturally with everyone around him. His presence brought comfort, his laughter brought light, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 601 Buttonwood Street, Norristown, PA 19401 from 10:00-11:00 AM. A funeral mass will follow at 11:00 am with Rev. Richard J. Smith officiating. Following the mass, there will be a luncheon at Screwballs Sports Bar, 216 W Beidler Rd King of Prussia, PA. 19406
