Virginia Barrett

She was born January 19, 1925 in Andes, NY the daughter of the late Louis W. and Carrie (Davis) Barrett.

Ginny grew up in Andes and graduated from Andes Central School. At the age of 21 she moved to Oneonta.

Ginny worked at Bresee’s Department store for a short time before going to work for AT&T Telephone as a telephone operator. She worked for AT&T for 34 years and never missed a day of work.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Oneonta.

Ginny is survived by her brother, Bruce E. Barrett of Austin, Texas; a sister-in-law, Marge Barrett of Windsor; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Bernard, Al and Ransom Barrett; and one sister, Ella Robinson.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:30 AM with the Reverend David Rockwell, Retired Methodist Minister officiating. Burial will follow in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery. Memorial donations in Virginia’s name may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 66 Chestnut Street, Oneonta, New York 13820.
