I was saddened to learn of Brian's passing three years ago.  It has been 50 years since we last saw one another.   There are always those childhood memories which we keep neatly tucked away.  I first knew Brian at age 12 as we were team mates with The Arcadia Riptides.  My family had just moved from New York to Arcadia.  Brian became my best friend for a couple of years as all we did was practice, practice, practice and then every weekend a swim meet.    Fern was the faithful team manager assisting Ray Peterson.  

Brian and I were at the boys will be boys stage; it was those teen years where we were curious about everything.  In the photo above, Brian is on the high dive second from the left and I am fifth from the left. I have many memories  of the Fetherolfs at Lake Havasu (I think I learned to water ski with the Fetherolfs), Brian's father, Don who worked for Vons, Fern always at swim practice (she once sewed me a long sleeve brown checked shirt).  I also recall Brian was considered for a tv role in the series, Flipper.  

While we did everything together, we also became each other's rivals competing for that coveted first place ribbon but also the recognition for most valuable player or most improved or even the highly sought 
after Ann McGurn award plus we were after the same girls, Pam F, Doreen B, Jodi W.

Brian's strongest suit was always the breast stroke and I can still see his lengthy  thin body swimming (I am sure he found the change in the stroke today somewhat startling as our heads could never go under water...automatic disqualification).  We eventually lost touch as Brian's family lived in Rosemead and mine in the hills of Arcadia.  So many years ago, but I am happy to see Brian lived a full life doing what he loved most and surrounded his loving family.

Nicole, Danielle, and Dane - I learned of your dad's passing yesterday.  I knew he was battling pancreatic cancer but I am shocked and deeply saddened that he is no longer on this earth.  It's been over 10 years since I last saw your dad and you guys but the memories of hanging out with you all will be with me for the rest of my life.  Some of the best times I had in Havasu were with him.   My favorite memories are of the "trash chute" on his boat during Bobby's memorial, hanging out at Matt's aunt's house in Havasu in the late hours of the night, and the one time he went to Twin Lakes with us.  He was so afraid of bears that he brought bear spray, and we made fun of him for that.  The pics I've shared bring a huge smile to my face.  I am truly sorry for your loss.  Wishing you all peace and comfort during this difficult time.

I will always remember all of our little dates we went on for my birthday and our sleepovers we had and how you would always make me our special m&m waffles that we would pour a whole bunch of m&ms and how we had to blow a kiss into it to make it extra special, like I promised it was always our secret breakfast that I never had told anyone. I’m gonna miss the special breakfast in the morning to to to papas Motor home in Glamis. I will always remember how we had all our little secrets with each other. Love you papa

It was the week of Fourth of July and Brian invited us out on his boat because ours was in his shop having something done to make it faster or shinier or something like that. We launched the boat and the boys asked if I would like to sit in the front seat and I declined and stayed in the back asking Brian with worry in my voice how fast he was planning on going. He looked at me with a straight face saying don't worry I never go over 100mph without wearing lifejackets.  So at that point I felt confident and safe that we would not be going over 100mph because we weren’t wearing lifejackets. We take off in the boat and I feel like we’re going pretty fast, I start looking around and I notice that people are now looking, pointing and giving the thumbs up….Also Brian and Joe’s  cheeks were flapping in the wind like crazy!  All of a sudden the back seat cushion flies up and out and somehow I caught it. When we get to our destination… which didn’t long 😬We get out of the boat Brian looks at me with a silly grin and says I told you I wouldn’t go over 130mph without our lifejackets… oh and thank you for catching the cushion! He was in the middle of redoing his interior when we called and said yes we would love to go on the boat so he rushed out pick us up and forgot to Velcro down the seat lol.   

After that we went to the channel where we sat for hours making fun of all the dumb people, dumb boats and  betting on how many times they would pass through.  Awful I know.

So many fun memories over the past 30 years. Most from the good old days when our kids were kids. The dinners every weekend (mostly at your house or Peppers, where Danielle would almost always fall asleep, lol!), river trips, cuda runs, birthday parties, supercross, Mexico and lots of car and boat talks. One of my favorite memories was when we all got to the river around 1 or 2am and Brian and the guys decided to find a campsite on the lake and set up tents then, so we went out on the boats, used flashlights to search the beaches for the perfect spot and set up camp at 2 or 3am. Fun times! Another favorite was our Mexico trip, the incredibly slow horses we rode on the beach, the burrito caper where all I remember was Brian running up to us saying...Run!!!Run!!! and so we ran. Lol!! The best was Brian's comment when we got into the red velvet lined Taxi with the dingle balls and Brian said..."Now this is loooove!!" 
 So many things I will miss about Brian, his wit, his sarcasm, but most of all, I will miss how he would beam whenever he talked about his kids or grandkids. He absolutely adored each and every one of you and he was so very, very proud of you all! He will be greatly missed! Love and hugs to you all!


A memory that I will never forget is showing up to desert storm in some silly tank top and he made me change my shirt to a B&D in order to stand in front of his boat. He was a man of few words and his dry sense of humor was amazing, he always found a way to give me a hard time yet make me feel seen at the same time. Heaven gained a good one, he impacted many and will be truly missed. 

When I was 16yo Brian invited me to come out with the family to Glamis for Thanksgiving. This was my first real introduction to the world of off road, Brian even taught me how to ride a four wheeler for the first time, and shortly after sold me my first atv. This led to a lifetime love and obsession with offroad riding. To this day I still utilize skills and lessons Brian taught me on that first trip. I truly can't believe he is gone, but his memory will live on through so many lives he impacted.

We especially remember Brian from his early parenting years as our kids were similar ages.  He was so very proud of each of his children and  supported, coached and encouraged them in their activities - many times with the same intensity, focus and competitive spirit he showed in boating.  When Danielle took up softball, Brian had her pitching 100 pitches a day to him.  And Danielle was good!  So good, that after taking an undisclosed number of balls to the groin catching her, he let the team catchers take over. 😄

Brian accepted me and my family from day 1, he was a bonus grandpa to Marley and someone to look up to and learn from for our boys. Brian and I quickly created a bond over our smart ass mouths (he spoke my language) while making some amazing memories in Glamis, Havasu, our recent beach camping trip, family dinners, a couple funny grocery store adventures (the things that he would say outloud! LOL) and more but, we also shared in some of Brians hardest moments and days. Over time our funny one liners turned into some of the longest and deepest coverstations about life that I have ever had. I loved talking to Brain, we could talk for hours. He was a proud, stuborn, caring & strong man and the fact that he loved & trusted me enough to be there with him and his family through the good and bad times will forever mean more to me than I can express. I am grateful to have known him, I'm SO mad I didn't get to know him longer but he will forever hold a piece of my heart.

I met Brian on my first Christmas trip to Glamis in 2001.  Even though the circumstances of my being there weren't ideal, Brian welcomed me in with open arms.  He treated me with kindness and respect.  In the years to follow his entire family became like a second family to me and I love them all!  Even though we might have had a gap of time between trips it was always like we had never been apart when we saw him again.  I have so many Glamis memories with the Scorpion King and look forward to when I can ride with him again.  xoxo 

One of our favorite memories with Brian is doing a morning speed run down to Havasu Springs for breakfast...but then of course that was followed up by mud slides at the Outer Harbor.  Damn, that made for a brutal Sunday drive home as all we wanted to do was take a nap.  But, Brian told us his mud slides were even better!!  We did get the pleasure of going to his house and brought all the fixins (he told us what to buy) and he made his famous mud slides and YES, they were definitely the best!!

Finally, another bittersweet memory was when we were on the lake and he was with us testing the boat, we lost one belt which then took out all the belts and we were stuck...however, we proceeded to make cocktails and waited for Sea Tow.  Not such a bad ending.

My best memory of Papa B is when we went to his house for a hangout and he showed me (and only me) where he kept the Reese's peanut butter cups...and he let me eat them all!!

My best memory with Papa B is going on my fastest boat ride ever of 100 mph.  Another memory is when I lost my favorite bucket hat doing about 125 mph in his boat, but it was worth it!!

Selfishy I am thankful for Brian being a part of our extended family because he created three great children who we have been lifelong friends with who we consider family.  One of my earliest memories as a little kid was out at Glamis at the end of the road, now roadrunner, and he took me for a ride in his red sandrail and said, I'll put a $20 bill up on the roll cage and if you can grab it when I take off, you can keep it.  Well, if you knew his buggy, you weren't getting the money.   I have a lot of memories over the 35 years we've known each other, and they are all positive and I appreciate every one of them.  Thank you for the memories and thank you for the friendship.  

I’ll always remember the little jokes you’d play and taps on my shoulder to trick me into looking the other way. :)

I met the Fetherolf's when I was around 11 years old. From the beginning Brian took me in as one of his own and felt like part of the family. We had nicknames for each other. Dane at the time had a nickname known as Pete or Peaty and I called Brian Repeat which in return called me Geronimo. During my childhood I was constantly with Brian and Dane. We pretty much did everything together from RC cars, go karts, burn outs, Havasu, Glamis and going to Casa Del Rey for dinner. He was a second dad to me.

 I grew up in the Hot Rod world but never was around fast boats until I met Brian. I remember the first time we went to Havasu together he let me drive his twin turbo Dimarco. I remember telling my parents how excited I was. In the afternoon he would take us out for a speed run and hunt for other boaters on the water for a quick adrenaline fix and spanking lol. This is where my love for speed on the water began. He taught me how to read the water and to handle a boat. Not only did he teach me the love for speed on the water but also on the sand. I remember one Christmas I went over to his house and we both sat down on the couch together. He told me he didn't have a gift for me but he said he wanted to take me to Glamis for my very first time. I said the heck with the present let's go to Glamis! He taught me how to ride and read the dunes which I learned on Danielle's massive heavy Warrior quad lol. Brian and I also bonded on land as well. We practically did burnouts in everything from the red suburban, forklift and especially the Chevelle. One time my neighbor called and told my dad to stop having Jarred and his friends do burn outs on our street, My dad said no that's my friend Brian.  

Brian was like a superhero to me. I always looked up to him. You could learn so much by just watching him and listening. He could fix anything and never gave up. I have him to thank for these tools and all the memories that I will cherish most.

About 19 years ago I made friends with Danielle at high school. It wasn’t very long after meeting the Fetherolfs that they made me part of their family. Brian was a great friend of mine and got me deeper into my sickness of horsepower and toys. Our families enjoyed all the same sports from dirt to sand street to water.

Don’t mess with one of Brian’s havasu trips!! We were out on the lake and the trans broke in the Dimarco. Once we got the boat back to the house we immediately started pulling the trans out and got it loaded in the suburban. He left early that morning and went straight to his trans guy back home. The guy rebuilt it on the spot and Brian was back on his way to havasu by the evening. When he got back we then put the trans back in and were out on the water the next day! He was never the type to give up. 

All of us know Brian had a very big inner child. He’d always say things to get a rise out of you by saying things you wouldn’t expect him to say. Dane and I would always try to get Brian’s inner child out, we got him to do burnouts in literally EVERYTHING! We would also wrestle like little kids. One of my funniest memories of him is we were leaving claim jumper and started wrestling once we got outside. Brian pushed me and I stumbled into a car knocking someone’s side view mirror off. I looked at Brian and asked “what are we gonna do?” and he started laughing and ran saying “let’s get the &$@# out of here.” Dane Brian and I laughed like little kids in the car.

I will cherish the infinite memories I have with Brian and will keep them living on with family until one day we all join him to kick back enjoy a beverage watching the sunset and fall asleep by a camp fire. Gonna miss you Brain!

Wow, so many memories. Brian was my brother-in-law, a wonderful father to my nieces and nephew, and a man I could call my friend. Along with so many others, I was in good company. I too could tell tales of hot laps where your smile gets completely blown up with the force of air and joy exploding across your face. There is very few people I would trust to go that fast on the water with, but with Brian at the helm there was nothing but exhilaration. And, those flapper jowled smiles
There are a myriad of stories I could go on and on with but one that stands out and, I think, tells a small part of his story. 
Mark and I were cruising in the Sea of Cortez on our sailboat “Shadowfax”. There was an issue with a broken piece of the windlass which is part of the anchoring system of the sailboat. The anchoring system is a bit of a huge deal when it is your floating home and everything you own is on board. 
We had gone to various shops on Baja to see if we could get or have made a replacement part to no avail. We didn’t want to impose on family but after running into multiple roadblocks the thought occurred, Brian could have this piece whipped out in a heartbeat. So, after a couple  of letters, (this was 1996 before Internet and texting)  sketches, and Ham radio calls we received a beautiful new dog for the windlass which fit perfectly on the first try. The man was truly an artist in the machine shop. 
Brian, I love you, I miss you….

We  had the privilege of meeting Brian in Glamis a few years ago. Right off the bat he was very friendly and welcoming and became like family over the years. We're so thankfully we got to hangout and make memories not only in Glamis but Havasu as well! Both places were Brian in a nut shell.

Brian, is the heart of our group and Glamis/Havasu will never be the same without him. He will forever be missed but not forgotten. RIP Scorpion King

Where do I start… well, every one of our conversations started with “Hey DA” and I always responded “Hey DB”. Dumba** and Douchebag were long standing terms of endearment that were created one fun night, soon after meeting, and they stuck. That is what I will treasure and remember most… he was one of the wittiest people I have known. He always had a funny come back no matter what the topic and could always make me laugh.  Oh, and the countless Facebook posts that included witty banter, profile picture “edits”, or just posts of comfort. I will smile extra big every time FB reminds me of one of those memories.  

Random thoughts/memories: I will never trust another boat driver like I trusted him (unless their last name is, used to be, or is married to a Fetherolf 😁). He loved Mai Tai’s from Panda Inn and cosmopolitans in “non-foo-foo” glasses.   He tried to teach me how to ride a quad and laughed when I was too scared to attempt to ride over any dunes.  Or the time I accidentally touched an oil room deodorizer before making his bagel and sending him on his way. He called asking what I did differently because it tasted funny. I didn’t even realize what I had done. I don’t know why but we laughed and laughed over that for years.  He loved watching movies from his jacuzzi.  He loved talking about his kids and grandkids. He was a great listener. He always made me feel loved. 

I will miss you DB. You left an impact on my life that will last forever! You were a great man!

Besides the time Brian gave me a huge hug of genuine gratitude after helping him and Evan clear out his storage unit, one of my favorite memory of him would have to be when we went camping in the Grand Canyon. It was my first time ever really hanging out with him, and Brian Danielle Evan and I were the only ones in the group that did not speak Hebrew.  One of the guys in the group was wearing speedos the entire trip and somehow every time he bent over Evan happened to be right next to him and would call out to Brian, and every time right away Brian would look right up at the unfortunate sight unexpectedly, and only us non Hebrew speaking members of the group would get a kick out of it. 

Brian always had a witty joke to keep me on my toes, I could definitely never keep up. I hope I can be more like him one day.

The night you brought Joe Cochrane to meet up with Joey (Grass Pays ) and myself at Rosario house and we hung out all night talking about boats and boat stuff. Who would have known that we’d still have Joe bouncing around after all these years.

One of my favorite memories with Brian was a Glamis trip. It was after dinner, there was a campfire going and nearby was a table playing card games, as we love to do. I was sitting between your dad & Trish and they were teaching me how to be sneaky about stealing a spoon off the table first – whether my cards were legit or not, just to be safe! 
This was back at a time we could play sitting down haha. 
Your dad kept trying to fake the table out by banging on the table. He leans over to me and was like “watch this”, well little did he know I already had a winning hand AND a spoon, it wasn’t my turn yet but I was just sneaky about it just like he taught me to be. This was the first time I ever played, and the time that made me fall in love with spoons! 
I will forever think of Brian when we play now. Your dad had the best sense of humor, I will miss his little jabs, and jokes; I will miss looking across the campfire to see him napping so peacefully after a day of duning-it wasn’t a campfire unless Brian was there napping. 
Most of all, I loved seeing how proud he was of all of you and your spouses and how delighted he was to be a Papa. Brian’s legacy will live on through each of you, he will always be by your side, we will all miss him so much!

I’ll never forget sitting in the Arcadia living room watching Dane and maybe the girls play Nintendo 64 WWF smackdown or something. I’d sit there on the couch next to Uncle Brian laughing and goofing off with everyone. He always had a buzz cut and I thought it was the softest thing I have ever felt and it became a total inside joke with us. Every time I’d see him I’d give him a rub on the top of his head for good luck. We’d always have a good giggle about it. I love you Uncle Brian!! 

I have had the pleasure to know Brian for the past 6 years. We’ve made countless memories in Glamis. Brian was always our go to guy when something broke or if something just wasn't running right. He was a man I highly looked up to with all of his mechanical skill and knowledge. He was an amazing leader when it came to dune rides he drove the hell out of his sand cars! He was always such a pleasure to be around and his dry sense of humor making fun of people at the camp fire. But, it wasn’t a true Glamis night until Brian was passed out in his chair by the fire. 

Brian, you will live forever in our hearts.

I have been a customer of Brian for about 30 years. I would always get excited when my boat broke, because I knew it would come back better, and faster with upgrades! Although I never hung out with Brian, he was a friend to me and will be truly missed. RIP Brother!

I remember the first time I met Brian.  We had driven to Pirates Cove to meet some friends only to find out our friends boat had sunk on the beach.  There were a few of us there and we were all trying to get to Havasu.  I let our friends son borrow my truck to retrieve the sunken vessel and Brian told us to “hop in so I can show what a boat ride is supposed to be.”   Needless to say, we made it to Havasu in record time while making Brian’s finger goggles over my eyes the whole way.  It was my first ride over 100mph and one I’ll never forget.  That’s the kind of guy Brian was. He was the best. 

First time I met Brian was years ago at a raft-up in Havasu.  I had just gotten my boats gel repaired from some damage I had gotten during a Desert Storm tie up so I was very nervous about other boats tying up to mine.  My boat is the last one on the end and I'm like a hawk watching the fenders to make sure nothing is damaging my boat.  A few minutes  later, I see a guy coming in solo in a Daytona.  Once I realize he is approaching my side of the tie up I jump into action. I climb back in the boat, pull out fenders and hang a leg over the side.  Brian smoothly spins his boat around sits up on the gunwale....BACKWARDS... no hand hands on the steering and starts walking the boat over with the drives.  I'm in awe, and as he gets closer I go to throw him a rope and he just wags his finger at me, no.  Then when it gets close enough, I go to reach out with my leg and he wags his finger again, no.  He walks the boat over to within 6 inches of the side of my boat and kills the engines.  At this point he must have seen the look on my face.  I had never seen anyone handle a boat like that. Sitting side saddle, working the throttles behind his back. Brian walks over to me and says very nonchalantly "not my first rodeo".  

I've spent more time over 100mph with Brian driving than with anyone else.  I've driven quite a few, and ridden in a ton of, fast boats and I have never felt as comfortable as when Brian was behind the wheel.

Beyond boats, Brian and I got close during a time when I was going through a sudden and devastating break up.  Brian and I talked about relationships, friendships and growing up.  He was a great listener, gave great advice and was a great friend.  When he told me about his cancer diagnosis, he had actually called to check up on me and see how I was doing with the break up.  I couldn't believe that he took the time to listen to how I was doing when he had just found out news that was far more important. He was one of a kind.

I remember a few years back running parts to Brian from socal to Havasu. He couldn't make it to socal and really needed these parts.  I decided to pick up the parts and do a turn and burn trip (4 hours each way) to drop off the parts and see him for about 10 minutes. He was beyond thankful. I kept telling him that it doesn't matter, it's just fuel and time. Seeing him for only a few minutes and getting him stuff he needed made me happy for him. I cherish the times at breweries, phone calls about boats and random talks about life and river trips. God speed, Brian. 

I also started school with Brian at Savanah. ( Kindergarten). He was one of my very first friends. I feel lucky to have reconnected with him and spend a little time together. He will always be my friend.
Very deep sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his Mother, Sister and all of his large and loving family.

I remember Brian’s warmth, his smile and that he always gave the most amazing hugs.  Wonderful memories of many family reunions spent with him and his incredible kids who he clearly loved so deeply.  My condolences to you all.

I remember Brian as the little kid that could.  He always excelled in everything he did, from setting swimming records at Rosemead High to water skiing.  When Rosemead High did away with the lease on Rosemead Pool Brian was crushed.
How could they do such a thing, the pool was his life. I was in Dolphinetts while at Rosemead High Class of 68’ and also on the Diving Team and yes a few years older but we teammates heard of this kid coming soon to RHS , we all wondered who was he.  We all knew Sue and would ask is he really that good?  And Sue would just smile and say “you’ll have to wait and see “. She wouldn’t come right out and say “yes” but she had away of being proud of Brian and we all knew it.
My prayers go out to family and friends, we lost a unique man!

My husband grew up with Brian on Lake Havasu. I was fortunate enough to meet Brian and his entire family through my husband at Lake Havasu. Brian always greeted us with open arms and loved sharing stories about boats Glamis and his kids. He will be missed,  he was a great man.  Sending  many prayers and hugs to his family. I bugged Brian to be my RHS graduation marching partner because he was so much fun to be around. He was the same a few years ago at an El Torino mini reunion.  
Condolences to the family he loved.

Brian and I began our friendship in first grade at Savannah Elementary School. We lost touch as our kids grew up and re-connected at a high school reunion. We enjoyed a few dinners together the past few years - catching up on our kids and our lives. He will truly be missed. My heartfelt sympathies to each of you.
