Ernestina Juanita Chavez

Ernestine “Tina” Juanita Chavez, 77, passed away on July 18, 2020. Tina lived a blessed life. She loved spending time with all her family near and far. She especially loved passing on her family traditions and if you were lucky, her recipes (i.e. her famous pumpkin rolls). Tina had the ability to make everyone feel like family. She spread her love to anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. Her love was unconditional. She was known as “Grandma” to family and acquaintances alike. Tina fulfilled many life goals including graduating from Chaffey College with 2 Associate Degrees in Science and Arts. She completed her degrees while working full time at Upland Convalescent Hospital and being a wife and mother. She retired from UCH in 1985. She then went on to become Supervisor Cook II at California Institution for Men. She retired after 16 years of work in 2002. Tina spent the rest of her life making memories and spreading her love with her family and beloved dog Diamond.

Tina is survived by siblings, Lourdes Jaramillo, Louisa Smith, Daniel Esquibel, Fred Esquibel, Cecilia Hernandes, Francella Favela, Rose Canogo, Patricia Morales, Mary Alice Ramos, Barbara Contreras, and Anthony Esquibel; son Benjamin Chavez Sr. (wife Nicole), daughter Joyce Guerrero (husband Pedro), daughter Cassandra Chavez (partner Lorna), and daughter Davey Rogina (husband John). She leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Tina is preceded in death by her husband Herman Ernesto Chavez, parents Joe and Corina Esquibel, son Jerry Chavez, brothers Roger and Victor Esquibel. A Rosary Mass service will be held at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church 877 N. Campus Ave. Upland, CA on August 4, 2020 at 10am. Interment will follow the mass at Bellevue Memorial Park 1240 W. G St. Ontario CA.
