John Timothy "Tim" Carey, 74, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026, in Chino, California, surrounded by his loving family after a five-year battle with cancer. Born on May 5, 1951, in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Tim lived a life full of love, adventure, and dedication to his family.
Tim grew up in a large and lively family with seven sisters who relocated to California when he was young. He attended Dominguez High School in Compton before pursuing higher education at UCLA, where he earned a degree in Philosophy. He had a long career in telecommunications starting with Pacific Bell and ended his career AT&T. Tim dedicated over four decades to the industry before retiring in 2018.
A devoted husband, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Tim is survived by his lovely wife of 48 years Vicki; his children Jim, Marissa, Michelle, Megan, and Sean; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six sisters; and a large extended family. He was predeceased by his parents John and Dorothy Carey; his sister Dottie; and his first wife Jeannea.
Tim’s love for the ocean was a defining part of his life. A passionate surfer who spent countless weekends at the beach, he shared this joy with others by teaching all his children, nieces and nephews, and grandkids how to surf. The beach was not just a place for fun but also a backdrop for family memories including the annual family beach camping trip.
Beyond surfing, Tim loved music and concerts, could often be found reading or playing cards with friends. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He delighted in watching his grandchildren play sports and was always ready to join in their games—pitching balls or playing alongside them.
May John Timothy "Tim" Carey’s memory bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know him.
