“Cool hand” Luke made his grand entrance on November 1st 1989 in Billings, MT. From the beginning there was no denying he was his mother’s son. Much to his dismay in later years he was told how much he looked like his mom. He lived in Billings and started school at McKinley & Lockwood schools. During these younger years, if you asked him he would tell you his best friends were Brianna and Cade. Later in life he was horrified to see in photographs that he sported a mullet hair cut at this time in his life.
In 1998, he and his family moved to California. There he attended elementary school in Chino. His teachers all said he was a good student but he talked too much! His spare time was filled with Little League baseball, Pop Warner football, and hanging out with Chris. About this time is when the “pack rat” syndrome started. He was known to go out to the garbage and bring stuff back in the house that mom had thrown away. By this time Luke had already whole heartedly committed to being a Denver Bronco fan.
From there he and his family moved to Rialto where he started 7th grade at Kucera Middle School. Here he suffered from a brief obsession with pokeman cards. It was here that it became evident that his fear of spiders equaled his love for the Broncos.
When he started his freshman year at Carter High he decided he wanted to play football again. Even though he injured his knee at the first scrimmage game of the year we knew he was going to be a force to reckon with on the football field. He was a starter by his sophomore year but after several knee surgeries he had to give up his dreams of playing college football. During these years you rarely saw Luke without his best friends, Tui and Moses. They spent a lot of time cruising around in his black Neon. High school was good to Luke. He made lots of lifetime friends evident by the many heart felt postings on his Face Book page.
After graduation, Luke was busy attending Valley Community College and exploring his career possibilities. Also working full time at McDonalds, it didn’t take him long to move up to management. Being a hard worker, he was appreciated and excited about future opportunities with the company.
Every summer Luke looked forward to his annual trip to Montana with his mom. He would spend his days hanging out with his cousins Casey, Derek, Kyle and Conor at his Aunt Holly and Uncle Bill’s house. There was never a trip made that his Little Grandma didn’t have a bag of his favorite cookies waiting for him. There were always comments made by Grandma MJ about how he reminded her of his Papa Bob. Grandma and Grandpa Davis always planned a fun day for him with his Aunt Brenda, Uncle Joe, and his cousins Austin and Jake. On the last trip to Montana his Uncle Rob and Aunt Abbey took him to get his cross tattoo that he proudly displayed on his arm for his 18th birthday.
Because of his love for sports his TV was permanently set to ESPN(GO DENVER BRONCOS!) One of his most memorable experiences was when his Uncle Myron and Aunt Janine flew him to Denver to attend a Colorado University football game. Cousins Jarrod, Jayson, and Jackson loved to tease him by calling him Furby because of his spikey hair. He also loved fishing, video games & wanted to save any stray dog that happened by without a collar. “Man’s best friend” truly were his best friends growing up. He loved his dogs Leo, Butch, & Shadow B. So much so that when Leo passed away Luke got a tattoo of him. With a heart as big as Montana, he made friends wherever he went, seeing people for them selves and always, always making them smile or laugh. From his youngest cousins to his grandparents, he could make you feel special just by listening and giving you that grin.
From the beginning he loved cars and motorcycles, from his first “Jeep” at two years old to the hot rods at the car shows. Many weekends were spent at the car shows with his dad and Grandpa Mike. There were many evenings spent eating his Grandma Amy’s homemade Mexican food with his Uncle Mike, Aunt Melanie, and Uncle Jeff after spending the day working on hotrods. His cousins Alexis, Alyssa, Issiah and Delilah had a special love for their cousin Luke and it was returned. He had many hopes and dreams for his VW Beetle, Hyundia
Tiburon, and the Ford Falcon that he and his dad were rebuilding. Luke and his dad always had many projects that were in the works.
People would be surprised to learn what a wide array of music genres he appreciated and loved. His interests ranged from BB King, Alabama, Hootie and the Blow Fish, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eminem, and endless others. Luke also had a music career playing his great grandfather’s saxophone. Luke had also recently been given an electric guitar with all the accessories at Christmas with hopes of mastering it in the future.
Being his mother and father’s pride and joy came easy for Luke. He changed their world forever with his presence. It is impossible to express the love, joy, happiness, pride and honor that Luke brought to their lives. As well as it is impossible to express the loss that we are feeling now and will forever.
“If someone were to ask me what has been
my biggest accomplishment in life,
I’d lift my head high, and speak from my heart
with a parent’s pride as I said the words,
“my son.”
