

Manuel Magdaleno Piceno passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, September 7, 2024 in Orange, California. The youngest of four children and five half-siblings Manuel was born October 12, 1942 to Florentino and Juanita M. Piceno in Guasti, California. He graduated from Chaffey High School in 1961.
Following high school, Manuel attended Chaffey Community College before enlisting in the Air Force in 1961. He served a total of five years at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and at Torrejón Air Force Base in Spain. He attained the rank of Airman First Class. Manuel highly valued his service and was awarded the Air Force Longevity Service Award and two Air Force Good Conduct Medals as a testament to his dedication to duty and strive for excellence. He was honorably released from active duty in July 1966.
Upon returning from Spain, Manuel began working as an electrician at American Can. He met his beloved bride-to-be, the former Hilda Oliva Orduño Ibarra, while living in Ontario, California with family. They married on November 30, 1968 in the San Secondo d’Asti Catholic Church at Guasti. They moved into an apartment in Ontario where they started their family. Following the plant closure, Manuel worked for Rohr Industries (later, bought by BF Goodrich) for the remainder of his 46-year career. In 1971, Manuel moved his family to Upland, California where they resided for the next 53 years. Manuel retired from BF Goodrich in 2012 at the age of 70.
Following retirement, Manuel enjoyed travelling and spending time with family. He was known by his family and friends for his kindness, sense of humor and willingness to lend a helping hand. He was a hard worker, often completing his own home improvements and repairs, even after a long days work at the Rohr/Goodrich Plant. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Upland, California. Manuel was diagnosed with leukemia in June 2024 and died from related complications shortly thereafter.
Manuel is survived by his wife, Hilda, daughter Gloria and husband, David; son Manuel Jr. and wife, Joann; son Steven and wife, Holly; grandchildren, Andrew, Jacob, Luca, Alyssa, Christian and Ashley. He is also survived by his brothers, Joe (Joyca), Jose (Lupe) and wife Teresa; sister Dolores (Lola), and numerous nephews and nieces. Manuel was preceded in death by his parents, half-brothers Tomas, Jesus, Juan and half-sisters Domitila Roman and Carmen Reyes.
A prayer service for Manuel will be held Monday, October 7, 2024 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at St Anthony's Catholic Church, 2110 N San Antonio Ave, Upland, CA 91784. A funeral service will occur Monday, October 7, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:15 PM, 2110 N San Antonio Ave, Upland, CA 91784. A committal service will occur Monday, October 7, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Bellevue Memorial Park, 1240 W G St, Ontario, CA 91762.
