I am saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Lawrence. I have only recently learned about his passing (unfortunately 4 years after), but I felt like it would be important to share my memories of my great teacher.

Mr. Lawrence was my 4th grade teacher at Alta Loma Elementary during the 2008-09 school year. To say he was a most memorable teacher would be an understatement. Mr. Lawrence was funny, dynamic, warm-hearted, bold, and different than any previous teacher I had. On the first day of school in 2008, I was able to witness Mr. Lawrence’s unique pedagogical style first-hand: he was engaging and embraced each student’s individuality, and introduced new dimensions into class (science experiments and demonstrations) that were fun and informative. Mr. Lawrence was certainly a pioneer of innovative teaching methods, and he was unapologetically unafraid of challenging the status quo. 

In the nearly one decade since 4th grade, I have missed Mr. Lawrence’s fiery and thrilling lectures, his humor and good spirits, and (most importantly) the group hugs we would give him! He has taught me to never be afraid to take risks and express myself, while always having respect for others and a deep dedication to my education.  While I am greatly saddened to discover Mr. Lawrence’s passing, I am equally optimistic that his humor, kindness, love for his students, and ingenuity will live on forever in the Alta Loma community.

I wish Mr. Lawrence’s family and loved ones the best as they remember this outstanding man.

I was lucky to have Mr. Lawrence as my fifth grade teacher in the mid nineties, he is by far my favorite teacher. I have great memories that will never be forgotten. Later in high school I returned for his help with a school project and he happily obliged. My niece had then had him as her fourth grade teacher and she had a wonderful experience of her own. I am now a teacher and he is one of the few that inspired me to be a teacher.

Thank you to Mr. Lawrence's family for sharing your time with all his students over the years.

We had the privilege of having our granddaughter, Jaylynne, in Mr. Lawrence's class for the school years 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 fourth and fifth grades. It was such a wonderful experience for both her and us. Not only did he teach her the basics of Reading, Math, English, Science and Geography he taught her about life. He made it fun for her to go to school. He gave her confidence when she was struggling with assignments and praise when she succeeded. He always kept it interesting and motivated her to excel. He taught her the skills that she will have for the rest of her life.  I would wait for Jaylynne almost every day outside the classroom at the end of school and there were usually former students waiting to say hello and give him a hug. Even though Jaylynne moved to another school district we would bring her back to visit when possible. He was loved by everyone. It was always about the kids. We were so fortunate to have him in our lives.

I was able to have this great man as my 4th grade teacher 6 years ago & he was the best I could ever ask for. I wish I was able to say good bye to such a wonderful teacher. I will miss you Mr.Lawrence & you'll never be forgotten. I am very sorry for his passing.

I never had the pleasure of having Mr. Lawrence as a teacher when I went to ALE. My close friends that had him always raved about his teaching. In fact several teachers at ALE inspired me to become an educator myself. Teachers like Mr. Lawrence are few and far between; thank you for dedicating your life to education, you will never be forgotten.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Lawrence. My son was in his 4th grade class last year and it was such a wonderful experience for him. Everyday he would come home saying, "Mr. Lawrence told us..." or "Guess what Mr. Lawrence did?!" He inspired my son and taught him so very much. He will be greatly missed. We wish his family peace and comfort during this difficult time. Mr. Lawrence's legacy will continue to shine through the children he taught with such inspired passion for so many years.

My Son Jared Had Mr. Lawrence Last Year And Mr. Lawrence Brought A New Love For School That Jared Never Had! He Has Created Many Great Memories That Jared Will Hold Onto And Cherish Forever. Our ALE family is mourning the loss of Mr. Lawrence. I had the honor of working with him for 4 years at ALE. We will continue his Western Days, at which he stood back and would smile, watching the children and parents have a wonderful time!  I am so glad I had those 4 years with Mickey!  He has touched and changed many lives and made an impact on so many people.  We will keep your memory alive!  So sorry for your loss Lawrence Family!  God Bless!!

I had the privilege of having Mr. Lawrence for 2 years (5th & 6th grade) at ALE in the mid nineties. He was one of my favorite teachers and I am truly saddened to hear of his passing. My heart goes out to his family, friends and all who knew him.

Our hearts go out to your family.  I met Mr Lawrence when he became by sons teacher almost thirteen years ago and then had the pleasure of working with him for the last eight years.  He is the coolest teacher my son and the rest of my children have known.  Even grown and serving in the Navy, my son came to visit him at the school even introducing him to his wife.  And his kindness after our family tragedy last year was so appreciated. When we think of him, we think of his funny stories he told our son about his wives cooking and the cool car stories,  As they got older, the common love for shooting and weapons were a major topic.  Guy stuff.  But most of all, his smile and wonderful, loud, boisterous voice that could get any ones attention.  He has showed kindness, consideration and true caring for others, even in the simplest ways.  We are proud and blessed to know him.

I am so so sorry to of heard of the passing of Mr. Lawrence. Neither of my sons had him for classes but he was teaching at Alta Loma Elementary for the entire time both of my sons have attended, and one still attending there now in 6th grade. I saw Mr. Lawrence just a few weeks aback at ALE and I said "Hi" to him and thought, "It's so sad that he isn't here any longer, because I really liked him." Two years ago we took the kids on a field trip to the Pomona Fair and I was a chaperone, so I got to know him a little more there. What a fun guy he was and what a terrible loss this is for all who knew him. Thoughts and prayers are going up for his family, friends and colleagues. I pray God's peace will comfort you as you mourn the loss of this very special man. God bless you all in the deepest ways possible.
