Roland was born in Sheldon, Iowa, The second of six children to John & Adriana (Den Ouden) Wiersma. The family moved to California in the early 1940’s. He spent most of his childhood in Bellflower, except for two moves to Lynden, Washington. Roland joined the Navy in 1954, served 25 years, most were spent in Asia. After retiring he lived in San Diego a few years and then Guatemala for about 25 years. His last 5 years have been here in Ontario with the declining effects of Alzheimer’s. He was preceded in death by his Father (age 41), Mother (age 95), and Sister Lenora (Al) Greek. Surviving are Nelson (Clarine), Joan (Chuck) Canaan, Vernon (Roberta), Bob (Susan), plus many nephews and nieces.
