Susan was brought to this earth by her Heavenly Father, on November 18, 1942. She was born to Ruby Florence (Seligman) Webster, William James Webster, Sr. and her older brother, William James Webster, Jr. of Highland Park, Illinois. They lived in Highland Park until Susan was seven years old.
One day Susan's dad came into the kitchen and announced to the family that they were packing up and moving to California, stating that her mother was not living one more winter in Illinois. they packed up and moved to Turlock, California where her parents owned a small mom and pop grocery store while Susan and William (aka Jim) grew up. This is where she fell in love with Elvis Presley as did most girls her age. She also loved jazz and the Blues. She was always in style with cashmere sweaters, poodle skirts, bobby socks and Oxford shoes.
In 1960, Susan graduated from Chino High School, being in the first four year graduating class from Chino High. She was very outgoing and loved her sewing class, learning to sow her own poodle skirts.
In 1962, she met the love of her life, Eddie Royce Maples, in Montclair, Ca. He was her dashing prince. They met a the pool where her and her parents lived. Within 6 months, the two were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Reverend Scheiu. Her Maid of Honor was her sister in law, Joan Webster and their Best Man was William Raedeke.
After getting married, Susan and Eddie found themselves in interesting escapades and visiting fun places with William and his then girlfriend, Cheryl Shea. Sue also met quite a few other close and amazing friends during this time, including Don and Patti Klassen, Archie and Pat Johnson (PJ), whom later in life would be called Pajamas by her granddaughter, Grace.
In 1964, Susan and Eddie moved to what would become the family home on Madera Ave in Ontario, CA. The night they moved in they went to the animal shelter and adopted a cute little puppy they named Pepper. They were one of the first home owners to reside at the Golden Estates. Within two years of having the house, they decided to adopt two children, Melissa Anne and Mark Andrew. Sue and Ed met and made friends in the wholesome neighborhood, such as Winnie and Dick Moe, Margie and Monty Montiel, Humberto and Lucy Macias, and the neighborhood elders, Mr. and Mrs. Kelly.
The house through the ages saw a party of two, which Sue threw together at a moment's notice. From Birthday get-togethers to Luaus which included cooking the pig in the ground. Sue made her home a place to be loved and accepted.
She worked for Scripps College and would retire from there after nearly 30 years of dedication to a job well done. While there, she made some awesome friends: Debbie Gray, Blanca Uriarte, Dorene Mittwer, James Manifold, and Barbra Clonts, wonderful people we will keep in touch with in the coming years. She was such a go getter and a people lover that she only stayed retired six months. She found herself working for the Claremont School of Theology. She worked with some pretty amazing people there as well, including Game Quan, Lynn O'Leary-Archer, and Emma Torres.
For the past few months, she spent her time with family and friends that she loved very much. She spent her Christmas very happy, opening presents with her great grandsons, Jeremiah and Ethan, her children Melissa and Mark, his girlfriend Loretta, her granddaughter, Gracie and Aris. She loved all her family and friends abundantly and would do most anything for them.
God bless you Sue; be with Eddie and the Angels that have passed before you!!!!
