

57, long-time resident of Upland, died January 6, 2014 after a brief illness. Born in Upland daughter of Donald Bartell and Marie Fischer Bartell. She attended St. George's, Chaffey High School, CSU San Diego and CSU Fullerton. She received a Juris Doctorate from UC Davis School of Law, and was admitted to the bar in 1982.
Tracy was a retired career prosecutor who served thirty years as a Deputy District Attorney for San Bernardino County. She served in a variety of assignments including general trial work, reviewing and filing charges, asset forfeiture and workers' compensation fraud, where she was lead attorney for over a decade. Her efforts at stemming workers' compensation fraud were widely recognized and she held regular consortium meetings to educate law enforcement in this area.
Tracy served several terms as secretary to the San Bernardino County Public Attorneys Association where she not only produced the official minutes but also conducted all elections. She was an accomplished grant writer. Tracy was known for her quick wit and a heart softened by love for all animals especially cats.
Tracy was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by her sister Brenda Bartell, and nephew Harter Hudson of Portland, Oregon; and her brother Don Bartell, his wife Laura Bartell, and nieces Heather Freeman, Emily Bartell and Amanda Bartell of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
A memorial service will be held at Draper Mortuary, 811 North Mountain Avenue, Ontario, on Saturday January 18th at 2:00 pm. Memorial donations may be made to the Animal Legal Defense Fund at www.ALDF.org.
