Larry Estep Sr., age 76, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2025, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. Born Larry Wayne Estep, on June 17, 1948, in Morehead, Kentucky, he was one of four sons of the late Cleve L. Sr. and Mildred Marie (Butler) Estep.
Growing up, he had a special cousin, Brenda, who was like a sister. He graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1966, then joined the US Navy in 1967 and was honorably discharged in 1971. He attended trade school studying electrician, small engine repair and conservation. He was a second-generation steelworker-beginning his 41-year career working at AK Steel as a cranewright, rigger and millwright. He was a member of Shiloh Masonic Lodge #544 F.&A.M.
Larry married the love of his life, Mary Perry, in 1971 and they shared many hobbies together. He loved the water and had a houseboat for several years. He enjoyed being outdoors, mowing the lawn while listening to his music. Larry most enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and a good card game with visiting relatives. His special and faithful canine buddy, Gunner, was always by his side.
A jokester, Larry enjoyed a good prank and making people laugh. He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and enjoyed playing pc games such as Sky Rim. He adored the waitresses at his favorite restaurant, Ted and Ali’s and looked forward to visiting frequently. Larry loved his church, Connect Church, and had a special affection for his pastor, Rick Lewis.
Larry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Estep; four children, Jessica Estep, Elizabeth (Carl) Brown, Wayne (Charity) Estep and Emily Estep Romans (Joey Gauer); three grandchildren, Haley, Matthew and Noah Estep; and three siblings, Donald Estep, Roger (Oakie) Estep, and Pete (Joann) Estep.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ralph and Hazel Perry; brother-in-law, Danny Perry; sister-in-law, Bernice Estep; and niece, Brandy Wilson.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 p.m. and 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Connect Church, 4062 London West Road, Shelby, Ohio. Masonic services will be held at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service conducted by Pastor Rick Lewis will be held in the church on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with military honors presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. He will be laid to rest in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Shiloh. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Connect Church.
