She was born in Mt. Gilead, Ohio, on October 13, 1925, to the late Bill and Ruby Trainer. She was baptized at the tender age of 13 in the Baptist Church in Fredericktown, Ohio. She later attended and became a member of the Apostolic Christian Church on Middle-Bellville Road.
She showed her love through baking. She always had something sweet to give you whenever there were visitors. She loved to sit and reminisce about her earlier years and share how tough times were through the Great Depression, but every story ended by her sharing how thankful they were with what they had. She would often say, “We just made do”. She would share her stories about her little brother Jimmy and her adventures with her cousin Richard Jagger around the family farm in Mt. Gilead. She graduated as a valedictorian of her class and her first job was as a timekeeper at the Westinghouse. She later worked for her husband, Robert, as a secretary, who worked in the Mansfield region as a sheet metal worker doing roofing and spouting.
One story she often shared was how she met her husband. She told how their first date was set up by some friends whom she worked with at the Westinghouse. She said, “He drove down from Mansfield to Fredericktown and picked me up on his Indian Motorcycle. My parents were so in shock they didn’t say a word.”Aldine married Robert Goettl of Mansfield, Ohio June 20, 1948. They shared 69 loving years together as husband and wife.
She loved to travel and visit Phoenix in the winter and Michigan during the summer. She loved to go out for drives around the countryside and visit Amish country. She enjoyed eating ice cream and if she had a box of chocolate, it would all be gone by morning. She spent her free time watching Wheel of Fortune and would never miss The Lawrence Welk Show on Saturdays. She wrote her story by cherishing the small things in life and appreciating every moment with her family. She taught us how to define life backwards and to live it forwards. She taught us how to write our story so that God could read it well.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan (John) Olar of Mansfield, Ohio; five grandchildren, Christina Whitlatch, John (Shirley) Olar, Amy (Joe) Walters, George R. (Stefanie) Olar, and William (Marina) Olar; fourteen great-grandchildren, Davia and Jasper Whitlatch, Renville, Calio, and Hazelene Snyder, Jacob Olar, Natalie and Nathaniel Walters, Noah and Jackson Olar, Lidica, William, Estera, and Pricilla Olar; and beloved niece and nephew, Lisa (Tony) Schwartz and Mike (Beth) Trainer. Aldine was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Lyn; and her husband, Robert Goettl.
Friends and family will gather for visitation on Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Wappner Funeral Directors-Ontario, 100 South Lexington Springmill Road, Ontario. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. officiated by the Apostolic Christian Church. Aldine will be laid to rest with her husband and daughter at Bryn Zion Cemetery, Mt. Gilead, Ohio.
