Willard ‘Willy’ Bert Lind Jr., a beloved, hard-working, and endlessly creative soul, passed away on December 3, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on August 22, 1941, in Galesburg, Illinois, Willy was the son of Willard Bert Lind, Sr. and Alta (Woolley) Lind.
Willy proudly served in the United States Navy for four years, a period he often spoke of with pride and gratitude. His service reflected his deep love for his country and his willingness to work tirelessly for the people he cared about. After completing his military service, Willy built a long and accomplished career at Anchor Glass Container, where he excelled as a glass bottle maker. His craftsmanship, attention to detail, and inventive mind earned him the admiration of colleagues and the respect of many within the industry.
A devoted family man, Willy is survived by his daughter Julie Moore (Chris) of Mt. Vernon, OH; his sons Mike Lind (Christine) of Winchester, IN, and Thomas Lind (Susan) of Ontario, OH. His love lives on through his grandchildren Corey Cline (Ellie), Valine Cline, and Valerie Lind, as well as his step-grandchildren Andrew Richert, Maddie Muncie, and Cameron Moore. He took great joy in watching his family grow and was especially proud of his great-grandchildren Isaac Seavolt, Reagan Cline, and Oliver Cline. Willy also remained close with his ex-wife Sylvia Lind. He extended his care and support to his stepchildren Donald Mitchell, Patty Damen, Barbara Faller, Lisa Lewandowski, and James Mitchell.
Willy was a man of many interests and a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures of life. He remained passionate about learning, often sharing stories, ideas, and innovations with anyone interested. He loved the outdoors, especially picnics, road trips, and the chance to explore new places—many of which he discovered during his travels for work. Animals held a special place in his heart, and he adored his faithful dog Buddy, as well as Bruno, his son Tom’s beloved dog.
Willard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Irene P. Lind, and all his siblings, whose memories he held close throughout his life. He leaves behind a legacy of love, ingenuity, and perseverance, cherished by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives he touched with his kindness and humor.
A Celebration of Life and burial will be planned for a later date in Erin, New York, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember Willy.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Erin Volunteer Fire Department (NY), the Erin Historical Society (NY), or to any organization supporting Veterans, reflecting Willy’s lifelong commitment to service and community.
