He was born in Birmingham, AL on February 19, 1930. After serving two years in the Marine Reserves, he obtained his bachelor's degree from Auburn University and his PhD in physics from Ohio State. He worked as a theoretical physicist for Bell Laboratories in NJ for 33 years earning multiple patents and awards for his work with crystals, lasers, and microwaves.
He was married to Annie Ruth Wilson for 72 years until she died in 2023.
Barney’s longevity was likely due to his love of exercise, which included running/jogging/walking, swimming, scuba diving, lifting weights, exercise classes, and ping pong. When he retired to Florida, he bought a bass boat and spent many days fishing. He LOVED his coffee, fresh vegetables, and chocolate peanut butter milkshakes.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Weaver, and her husband Kevin; his widowed daughter-in-law, Ginny DeLoach; his grandson, Adam, his wife Alayna; and his granddaughter Sarah and multiple nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Bernard DeLoach, III in 2015.
