Donald Harry Packer was born to Louis and Addie Packer on February 11, 1943 in New York City. He spent the greater part of his life in that city. Donald attended P.S. 110, Woodleigh Junior High School and Manhattan Machine Metal Trade School. Upon graduating Donald worked several jobs looking for just the right place.
In 1965, he joined Forbes Magazine where he was employed for 43 years. Donald retired in 2008 because of his failing health. He used to say that Forbes Magazine was his home-away-from-home. There were countless occasions when he would go to work on his days off just to spend time with his co-workers.
Donald was a people person in the truest sense. He enjoyed meeting people, learning about their cultural backgrounds and traditions. He loved the diversity that could only be found in New York City and I believe that was the reason he never wanted to live anywhere else.
Donald was also a sports enthusiast; he especially loved fishing. Dad and Donald would often go to Sheepshead Bay or Montauk Point returning with enough fish to feed our entire apartment building. Donald was also an avid baseball and basketball fan. He always rooted for the N.Y. Mets and the N.Y. Nicks.
Donald took the greatest pleasure in the smallest things. He always looked on the bright-side, always smiling, always courteous and kind to others. He always looked for ways to lend a helping hand in anyway possible. He truly loved and cared for people; a trait which was obvious to anyone who was fortunate enough to know him.
Donald departed this life on February 20, 2012. Left behind to mourn and cherish his memory are his sister, Joan David, brother-in-law Hensley David, nieces Tanya David and Tiffany Jarski, grand-niece Sydney Ariana Jarski, nephew-in-law Richard Jarski and a host of friends and relatives.
Donald touched the lives of all who knew him. We will always love you Donald.
