Irene was born on March 30, 1932 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Benito Mercado and Mercedes Colon. She was a diet aide at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, New York prior to her retirement. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, Spanish soap operas and was all about her family.
She is survived by her son, William Olmo; two daughters, Mercedes Olmo and Gloria Aviles; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a brother, Manuel Mercado and a sister, Carmen Mercado.
There will be a Gathering of Friends on Saturday, May 22nd from 5 - 6 pm at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home, 1295 Saxon Boulevard, Orange City, FL, PH: 386-775-4260 followed by a Memorial Service at 6:00 pm at the funeral home officiated by Chaplain David Meyer.
