Jim Stein, born on the 4th of December, 1958 in Baltimore Maryland. On March 2nd, 2023, at the age of 64, Jim proceeded to his heavenly home. For those that knew him, he went by several names, most notably Jimbo, Pops, Dad, and perhaps his favorite, Poppy… He was this man because of the love, charity, and guidance of his chosen parents, David and Linda Pack.
Jim was a faithful, loving, caring, and playfully antagonizing husband to his wife, Vicki for 40 years. Jimbo met the love of his life while on a beach vacation in the summer of ‘81. Jim’s first words to Vicki were “Do you know God?”, which is a testament in itself to the life he lived. After a year of writing love letters back and forth, and only seeing each other 14 times, they wed on the 5th of February, 1983.
There were two main aspects of his life. First and foremost was his unwavering and childlike faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The second was his love for his family, not just those related by blood, but for everyone he considered family.
Jimbo felt called to share the word of God with everyone he met. He fully understood what it meant to be in God's Grace, and couldn’t imagine someone not experiencing the same. He praised the Lord in the good times, but most importantly he sung his praises in the bad times. He never worried about what would happen next, as he knew he was never alone. One of the last things he shared was Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;”
Jimbo was a family man, through and through. Perhaps his proudest accomplishment was becoming a father to Amanda, JT, and Jeffrey. Through it all, his greatest desire was to show how to love, and what it meant to be loved. From being the biggest fan at a cheer competition, to being a head basketball coach, and even building an additional bedroom in his garage to house kiddos that weren’t even blood. He didn’t miss a moment to show he cared. Jimbo wholeheartedly supported their every endeavor, and encouraged them through every season of life. Never missing a chance to remind them to keep their eyes on Jesus, no matter the circumstance.
Perhaps Jimbo’s favorite promotion of his life was that of becoming Poppy. His joy of being a father was easily surpassed by being a grandfather. He was Poppy to seven beautiful grandchildren. McKinley, Olivia, Ainsley, Clayton, Abel, Ophie, and Annie Claire. Poppy was there at every turn, whether it be recitals, birthday parties, boat trips, or a bonfire so tall we had to wait to roast the marshmallows. Jimbo’s family was his whole world, and he never missed a chance to make memories with them.
Jimbo loved to fish. However, the chance to share this love brought him more joy than fishing itself. He always wanted to ensure that those who couldn’t fish, had the chance to. When not fishing he could easily be found snuggled up with his dog, Buddy. He had a knack for making jokes out of every situation, and had zero self control for his sweets. He spoke life into all of those he knew, and even those he just met. He loved and therefore was loved; we are all better people for having known him. Today we proclaim, “O death where is your victory? O death where is your sting?”.. For victory is in Christ, and death is not the end for those who trust in Jesus.
One of the greatest blessings our family has received through all this is the influx of messages of how much Jimbo impacted their lives. Jimbo was always a crucial part of how we navigate through life, and it's amazing to see we were not the only ones privileged by this. He truly made the world a better place just by being in it. Jim’s celebration of life will be on Sunday, March 12th, at Cornerstone Church, 2813 Howland Blvd Deltona, FL. 32725 at 2:00 pm. We encourage you to join us as we celebrate the beautiful life of an incredible man, husband, father, friend, and Poppy.
