

Joe F. Nichols, 83, was born June 28, 1932 in Tell City, Indiana to the late Ivory and Mabel Nichols. Joe graduated from Tell City High School in 1951. After graduating from high school Joe enlisted in the United States Air Force where he spent 20 years before retiring in 1971 where he attained the rank SMSGT. Joe was a graduate of the Air Force Non Commissioned Officers School and member of the N.C.O. Association. Among some of the awards he received was the Bronze star, Commendation Medal, Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He served in Korea in 1952-53, and South East Asia in 1968, as well as Japan and Spain. Upon retiring Joe moved with his family to Indianapolis where he worked as Office Manager for Capital Consolidated Wholesale Distributor for 14 years. He was a member of Crooked Creek Baptist Church, as well as the American Legion and life time member of the VFW. Joe enjoyed fishing and playing golf, he even had a ‘hole in one’ at DeBary Country Club and was a ‘Hole in One Member’ of TV’s Golf Channel. He has lived in DeBary since 1994. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Doris Gordon, Frances Drake and Sue Jones, and his two brothers Yewell and Chester. Joe leaves to mourn his wife Fay, son Gary and daughter-in-law Marcia of Lake Mary, FL, son Greg of Port St. Lucie, granddaughters Stephanie wither her husband Brett, Christina and Chelsea, a great-grandson Wyatt and one brother Wayne of DeSoto, Kansas.
