On May 3, 1927, an honorable and noble man was born to Nick R Lewis and Tishie Lowe-Lewis. Raised in the mountains of Tennessee, he grew to love nature and the great outdoors.
Loving his country and fellow man, Nick entered the Army in August of 1945; serving until 1947. While serving, he traveled to Georgia, Hawaii, and Guam, which he said was "the hottest place in the world and had more bugs than anywhere". He also told a story about serving green beans to a General on the ship to Hawaii.
In November of 1949, Nick met the love of his life in a candy store. Courtship was very brief, they wed on January 14, 1950. After starting their family in Tennessee, Nick moved his family to Michigan.
Nick started working for General Motors at the Hydromatic plant in 1953. Working, fishing, and his family was Nick's entire life for the next 28 years. He and his wife raised 5 children in Belleville, Michigan before Nick retired in 1981 at the age of 54.
Leaving Michigan on September 15, 1986, they enjoyed time with family in Tennessee before arriving in Kissimmee, Florida in November of the same year. There, Nick fished all of the surrounding lakes and waters until moving to Deltona, Florida in 1994.
Residing here in Deltona, he was preceded in death by his parents, his wonderful wife, Jesse Pauline Lewis, and three children; Susie, Keith, and Connie. He is survived by two children; Sherry (husband, Wayne) and Jerry (wife, Candy), 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 11:00 am at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home, 1295 Saxon Boulevard, Orange City, FL, PH: 386-775-4260 with Pastor William Yesse officiating. Entombment will follow in Deltona Memorial Gardens in Orange City, Florida.
