Betty Jane Wright, born on November 16, 1939, age 81, transitioned on July 23, 2021. Born to John and Rachel Owens in Chicago, Illinois, Betty was second born of two children, John Owens being the eldest. Betty was currently residing in Jacksonville, FL where she transitioned and was survived by her husband, Willie L. Wright.
Betty’s Catholic upbringing sustained her belief in God as her protector and Lord, that gave her spiritual guidance and purpose. Early on, she attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and then attended Waller High School, now known as Lincoln Park High School. Betty married at an early age where she resided in Chicago, IL and had four children, Margo, Gwendolyn, Jannette, and Lorroli. She also has three stepchildren, Willie Jr. (wife Veronica), Anthony (wife Peggy) and Teresa. Betty worked as an Administrative Assistant in Evanston IL. Even though she grew up Catholic, Betty became involved as a leader in the Baptist church. There she was deemed as a diaconate of the church. Known as Mother Betty, she became a role model and spiritual counselor to the women of the church. Betty loved dogs and often advocated to help lessen animal cruelty.
Betty is also survived by her sister-in-law, Pat Owens; nieces Lisa and Christina; her three remaining children; three stepchildren; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
