Clara R. Gomez

Clara Rodriguez Gomez, 79, passed away November 22, 2017. She was born August 12, 1938 in Comfort, Texas to the late Santo Rodriguez Sr. and Benita Lopez Rodriguez. They moved to New Braunfels, Texas when Clara was 8 years old. Mrs. Rodriguez’s siblings include one sister; Sylzestra L Rodriguez, 4 brothers; Jose L Rodriguez, Abrulio L Rodriguez, Jantos L Rodriguez Jr., and Duroteo L Rodriguez.

Clara was a loving wife full of happiness with her husband Melchor “Mel” Gomez.

Melchor proposed to Clara when she was 18 years old. During the duration of the engagement Melchor was stationed in NAS Corpus Christi, Texas. Clara had a long 4 year wait until Melchor was finally out of the Navy in 1960. January 16, 1962 Melchor and Clara were married at Holy Family Church; they were so happy to start their new life together. Clara is survived by 2 children; Michael James Gomez and Patricia Ann Gomez from Miami, Florida. She is preceded in death by 1 child; Linda Gomez who was born 1963 and passed away 2002. Clara is also survived by her grandchildren; Matthew “Matt” Espanosa, who is a UNF teacher of music and Tuesday Wayne Gomez, who is a United States Marine.

Clara has made her home in Orange Park, Florida for 41 years. During this Clara has made many caring friends. Her smile always brought joy and happiness to all.

Clara had a deep and true love for her husband. Their nicknames for one another were, “You are my sunshine.” They loved to sing the song together. “Life would still go on, I know, if you were not beside me. The sun would rise and shine just like before, yes the light and love and “song” with you beside me your still my “sunshine” in spirit and always will be my sunshine forever! Amen

Family will receive friends 10-12 PM, Thursday, November 30, 2017 at HARDAGE-GIDDENS RIVERMEAD FUNERAL HOME, 127 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, FL. Funeral Mass will be held 1 PM, Thursday, November 30, 2017 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, 1649 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, FL. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park.
