

Al was born in Vance county, North Carolina, and grew up in Clayton, North Carolina. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955 and went on to obtain a degree from North Carolina State University. He married the love of his life, Becky, in 1961, when they began their life together and raised two children, Clay and Kimberly. He enjoyed a long career as a Labor Relations Specialist with the Civil Service. He spent most of his career in Orange Park, Florida, where he eventually retired. Al loved his family, playing poker with his buddies, classic cars and his beloved N.C. State Wolfpack.
He is survived by his son, Elbert C. Newton, Jr., his daughter, Kimberly Pruitt and her husband, David Pruitt, sisters Anne Burke and Becky Robins and her husband, Andy Robins, grandchildren Tiffany Marino and her husband, Larry Marino, Alaina Pruitt and her husband, Jacob Fitzgerald, Sean Pruitt, and great granddaughter, Allison Marino.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Newton, granddaughter Tara Newton, mother, Virginia Osborn, step-father, Mason Osborn, and his
father, Elbert Watkins Newton.
Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home, 127 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, Florida.
