A loving wife and mother of four daughters, she was a caring homemaker who was active in her community. No matter how busy she was with family, she always found time to be an advocate for anyone in need.
She grew up in East Tennessee, but raised her family in Panama City, FL and Orange Park. She was recognized as “Mother of the Year” by the March of Dimes, taught Sunday school and was known as the “Art Lady” of vacation bible schools. She was an inspirational Troop Leader for the Girl Scouts in addition to being someone the Parent-Teacher organizations could always count on over the years. She never missed a ballgame, theatrical performance, or an opportunity to raise supportive funds for the many extracurricular activities her girls enjoyed so very much. She was known for throwing the best parties where the handmade decorations were as important as the food and always provided an environment where the neighborhood children felt right at home. To know her, truly was to love her.
A private memorial service was held on September 1, 2011. Arrangements under the direction of Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home, Orange Park, FL.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, J. Walker Jones; four children, Holly Jones Jamerson of Johnson City, TN, Tracy Jones Hart, of Campbell, CA, Paige Jones Oslowski of Orange Park, and Shannon Jones Kontinos, of Sunnyvale, CA; four sons-in-law and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnie Barnes and Annis Chambers Barnes, of Oak Ridge, TN.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the March of Dimes, marchofdimes.com/giving or to the Art Department at your local school. Both were very near and dear to her heart.
