

Karen graduated from Maury High School in 1984.
She attended Norfolk State University for 2 years and she took a break when she got married and started her family, but she returned to school years later and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education and Training from Southern Illinois University.
She was a devoted employee to the US Navy as a Scheduler/Quota Control Specialist for over 18 years at NAS Mayport, Florida and 2 years with E.J. King High School in Sasebo, Japan where she began her Federal job career.
Karen was a great mother, daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend. She was full of life and loved to dance around the house, cook, read books, and make her family laugh. She was a very positive person, who was organized and always dependable and trustworthy. Her smile was infectious to all that saw it. Most of all she LOVED her family!!!! Even in the most trying time of her life while in the hospital, she continued to be full of life and make everyone laugh. God truly picked a beautiful soul to come home and adorn her wings.
Her father Clarence Julius Nesbitt preceded her in death.
Karen is survived by her sons: Kenneth Sawyer Jr, Kamran Sawyer, Kamari Sawyer and Kaden Sawyer; the father of her children: Kenneth (Rhoda) Sawyer Sr.; mother: Mae Helen Exum; brothers: Khalid (Tanisha) Muhammad and Korry (Cashunda) Nesbitt; sister: Kendra Nesbitt Eason; grandchildren: Rylee Sawyer, Kaleb Sawyer and Kamiyah Sawyer; aunts: Joann (Charles) Burks, Ernestine Davis, Betty Nesbitt, Jean Nesbitt, Sandra Nesbitt; uncle, Howard Pickle; and a host of extended family; a dear and devoted friend Quelynn Harris.
Funeral services will be held 1 PM, Thursday June 20, 2024 at HARDAGE-GIDDENS RIVERMEAD FUNERAL HOME, 127 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, FL with visitation held 1 hour prior to service from 12-1 PM at the funeral home. A funeral procession will proceed to her final resting place at Holly Hill Memorial Park.
Repast will be right after the graveside services at Holly Hill Funeral Home, 3601 Old Jennings Rd, Middleburg, FL.
