He lived most of his life in Jacksonville, but also ventured to Middleburg and St. Augustine. Larry spent his last 4 years in the mountains of West Virginia where he embraced the beauty, wildlife and solitude. After graduating from Andrew Jackson High School, he attended the Dallas College of Mortuary Science and was licensed as Funeral Director and Embalmer. Larry retired after 46 years of serving families of the First Coast and surrounding areas.
Larry was civic minded and supported communities through The Springfield Lions Club, Morocco Shrine Temple and several Hospice entities. He played a big part in different indigent programs within the community to ensure that all citizens had a proper and dignified burial.
He was preceded in death by his parents Syble and Charles “Chuck” Strange and his brother Charles “Corky” H. Strange, Jr.
Larry is survived by his best-friend Charlie Brown the Dog; daughter Lorie Ann Strange-Paylor (Larry); son Brian Adam Strange (Kristin); 2 sisters: Carleen Allan and Vicki (Eddie) Rodgers; 7 grandchildren: Luke, Kiley, Ian, Madison, Hayden, Aries and Blair; great-grandson Oliver; many nieces and nephews; and the mother of his children Shirley Cordell (Kelly); and a host of extended friends and colleagues.
Funeral Services will be held 11 AM, Thursday, May 18th, 2023 with visitation held 1 hour prior to service at HARDAGE-GIDDENS RIVERMEAD FUNERAL HOME, 127 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, FL with Pastor Tim McDaniel officiating.
