Lois Pearl Fisher, age 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 2, 2015. She was born on November 28, 1920, in Arcadia, Florida to the late Henry James Smith and Eddie Mae Blanton Smith. Pearl grew up in Lake Worth, Florida, and as a young adult moved to Baltimore, Maryland, to work in the aircraft industry. She returned to Jacksonville, Florida, to work at NAS Jacksonville, where she met her late husband Chief Petty Officer Marion Ralph Fisher.
Pearl and Marion were married in 1945 and had one child, Sandra Jeanne. Together as a Navy family, they lived in Panama; Jacksonville, Florida; Norfolk, Virginia; Quonset Pointe, Rhode Island; Corpus Christie, Texas; and New Iberia, Louisiana. They returned to Jacksonville, where Pearl resided until 2006 when she moved to Georgia to live with Sandy and her family.
Family was the most important thing to Pearl. Being the oldest of eight, she cared for her sisters and brothers before leaving home. After she married, she cared for her own family, then her grandchildren. Later, she and her siblings cared for her parents as they aged. One of her greatest joys in her last years was spending time with her great-grandchildren as they visited their grandparents’ house.
Pearl is survived by her daughter Sandy; son-in-law Lewis; grandchildren Jackie, Coy, and Marion; great-grandchildren Laughton, Campbell, and Jackson; sisters Dorothy, Betty, and Ruth; and brother Donnie. She is predeceased by her husband Marion; sister Marion; and brothers Eule and Jimmy.
Visitation will be held on December 4, 2015, from 6 PM to 8 PM, at Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home in Orange Park. Funeral services will be held on December 5, 2015, at 11 AM, at Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home in Orange Park, followed immediately by a graveside service at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Cemetery.
