Philip Barrows Reemelin, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, passed away on March 4, 2024 in Orange Park, Florida. Born to Margery and Benjamin Reemelin on March 2, 1948 in Minneapolis MN. Phil was a family man first and foremost, proud serviceman, diligent business man, and a dedicated golfer!
Growing up Phil was a cherished son and brother and talented athlete who loved playing sports. Shortly after starting college at South Georgia on a tennis scholarship, he was drafted in 1970 into the United States Navy and proudly served our country during Vietnam. While stationed in Norfolk, Virginia he met the love of his life Angela Taylor Norville. Phil and Angela married in 1973 and raised two children: Richard and Kitty. Phil was a devoted father, known for his presence at his children’s sporting events, recitals, and family trips as evidence by the vast video and photography library (Phil was clearly an amateur photographer!) He graduated from college at Old Dominion University with a bachelors in Business Administration and was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. After locating to Florida to work for his father he became Treasurer of Zaun Equipment.
During his 33 years of military service in Naval Air (Active and Reserved) he was awarded several commendations and recognized as sailor of the quarter as well as sailor of the year many times. He loved different aircrafts from F/A-18 to P-3 ultimately retiring in November 2002 at Naval Air Station Jacksonville VA-203.
He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and loved golf, tennis, scuba diving, traveling and above all his family! He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Angela; his son Richard (Emily); his daughter Kitty (Eric); his grandchildren Randall, Ben, and Lucy; brother Roger, his nieces, nephew, cousins, in-laws and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jim.
Funeral Services will be held 11 AM, Friday March 22, 2024 at HARDAGE-GIDDENS RIVERMEAD FUNERAL HOME, 127 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, FL with visitation being held from 9-11 AM. Funeral procession to Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL for full military honor burial will be at 1:30 PM.
