Raleigh dedicated much of his life to service—first spending 10 years in the United States Navy, followed by an extraordinary 42-year career at the Naval Aviation Depot at NAS Jacksonville, from which he retired in December 1999. His work was defined by dedication, discipline, and pride, qualities that carried through every aspect of his life.
At the heart of Raleigh's life was his deep and abiding love for his family. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Betty Joann Weathington, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage, as well as his parents, Glen and Inez Weathington, and two brothers.
He leaves behind a legacy carried on by his five children: Charlie Mills (Sam), Cheryl Greene (Esau), Randy Weathington (Kim), Rick Weathington (Anneliese), and Dan Weathington (Lori). He was also the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy. Raleigh celebrated every new addition to the family with a radiant smile and a heart full of love.
Raleigh was, above all, a family man—a man of strong moral character, endless compassion, and remarkable generosity. Those who knew him will always remember his gift for storytelling, his warm sense of humor, and the way his smile could light up a room.
His faith was the cornerstone of his life. Raleigh loved his church and his community of fellow believers deeply. He found joy in serving others, often baking cakes for church gatherings—never just one, but always at least two. He was an avid reader, especially of westerns, mysteries, and "whodunits," and he spent time studying his Bible, becoming well-versed in God's word and eager to share that knowledge with others.
Raleigh believed firmly that his life was built on the solid rock of faith, and he made it his mission to be a blessing to everyone he encountered. That legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in all who knew him.
