

Rosa Vye, 103, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2010, at Life Care Center of Orange Park in Orange Park, Florida. Rosa was born on March 23, 1907, in Haverigg, County of Cumbria, England, to the late Sarah and John Nute Sr. She came to the United States in 1913 with her parents and younger brother John, and settled in Gary, Indiana. She lived in Gary until she moved in 1978 to St. Louis, Missouri, and then to Orange Park, Florida in 2001.
She was a registered nurse and graduated in 1927 from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Gary. Mercy Hospital is where she met her future husband, Dr. J. Preston Vye. After her marriage to Dr. Vye in 1929, she retired from nursing and became a homemaker.
Rosa was preceded in death by her husband, Preston, and her sister, Mary Land, and brother, William Nute. Surviving are her children, Dr. Malcolm V. Vye of Glencoe, Illinois; John Q. Vye (Cheryl) of Fleming Island, Florida; brother, John Nute Jr., of Fresno, California; grandson, Jerome P. Vye (Vicky) of Evanston, Illinois, and great grandchildren, Andrew and Christopher Vye, also of Evanston.
Rosa was an excellent seamstress and spent many hours knitting and crocheting bedspreads and wall hangings, and making clothing and apparel for her and her children.
She was also an avid reader of the Bible and a member of the 43rd Avenue Presbyterian Church in Gary. She also left an extensive set of diaries that chronicled her and her families' life in Gary and St. Louis. She and Preston and the two children also did extensive travelling in the 1940's, and 1950's in the US and Canada. Their vacations took them to the desert southwest and the US west coast, the Rocky Mountains, western Canada and the Canadian Rockies, the Canadian Maritime Provinces, Florida and Cuba.
Funeral services will be held at Kuiper Funeral Home in Highland, Indiana, and internment will be in the Vye family plot located at Evergreen Memorial Park in Hobart, Indiana.
