Warren Michael McIntyre was born in Suffolk, Va. January 21, 1947 and died at his home in Orange Park on November 22, 2010. He lived the majority of his life in Jacksonville after the Navy brought his Dad to the area in 1949.
“Mike” was a graduate of N.B. Forrest, Class of 1965. He was in the Army National Guard and then the U.S. Army from 1968-1974. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran. Mike graduated with a BFA from Clemson, Univ.; MFA from FSU and a MS from UNF. He was also a Mason.
Mike was a talented craftsman who created sculpture and clay vessels. He shared his love for his craft by being a founding member and resident potter at The Potter’s Rib in Jacksonville Beach; teaching sculpture at JU and other schools in both Duval and Clay counties; serving as a State Board member for Florida Craftsman, and by participating in NCECA and Clay Network. He made his living teaching, repairing kilns and selling his work locally and nationally.
Mike is survived by his wife Katy; daughter Jennifer and her husband Thierry Graber; son Tim McIntyre and his wife Shauna; daughter Casie Soto; Aunty Clara Graziano; cousins Wayne Mildner, Douglas Ford, Keith Gardner and John Gardner; and by seven grandchildren: Cassidy, Graysen, Ellen Liam, Diego, Jackson and Malia who all affectionately called him “Diddy”.
Mike was a lover of the Blues and Rock and Roll, ice cream and good conversation. He had a heart the size of Texas, often being generous to a fault. Mike always wanted to go in the opposite direction of the “normal” crowd and so he made it easy for the rest of us to have fun at his expense. He was gracious about the razzing and he considered our commentary as terms of endearment.
He will be missed by family and friends, but he will also be responsible for many smiles in our years to come.
Memorial service will be at 3:00 PM, Sunday at Orange Park Presbyterian Church. The family requests that any memorials be given to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Jacksonville, 8382 Baymeadows Rd #9, Jacksonville, FL 32256- (904)733-3560.
