

Carl was a cherished father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication to family and community. Born in Miami, Florida, he was a devoted son and loyal brother. After the loss of his father at a young age, Carl and his family moved to Champaign, Illinois, where he grew up and attended the local public schools.
Answering the call of duty, Carl served honorably in the United States Marine Corps, embodying a deep sense of loyalty, discipline, and patriotism throughout his life. Following his military service, he pursued his passion for technology, completing his education in computer science and building a successful career as a computer specialist until his well-deserved retirement.
On June 21, 1970, Carl married Annette Hamilton Vaughn, and together they had a beautiful daughter, Karla Marie. His devotion to his wife and daughter brought joy and strength to their family. Carl was a guiding light, offering wisdom, encouragement, and laughter, leaving a warm and lasting imprint on all who were privileged to know him.
Carl is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years Annette; loving daughter, Karla Marie; his brother, Abdul el Jamal; his sister, Olivia Garrison; and his treasured grandchild, Anais Nunnally. He was preceded in death by his parents, Will T. Nunnally and Marguerite Armstrong Nunnally, and brothers James Oliver and David Oliver. Carl also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and dear friends whose lives he touched.
Carl’s steady spirit, kind heart, and generous nature will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on through the stories, laughter, and love shared by family and friends.
Family and friends will gather on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Orland Funeral Home, 9900 W. 143rd St., Orland Park, IL, beginning at 9:00 a.m. A chapel service will follow at 10:00 a.m. to honor Carl’s life and legacy. Interment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
