

A good-natured, charismatic man, Kevin loved to travel and meet people. He leaves an indelible impression on the lives of so many; devoted and loving father to Sarah Gascon and Kevin Gascon; beloved brother of Kenneth (Carolyn) Gascon, Brian Gascon, and Melissa (Paul) Woods; dear uncle of Jonathon (Natalie), Michael, and Allison Gascon, along with David and Emily Woods; nephew, cousin, and friend to many.
Kevin joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1986 and attained the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant by the time of his retirement in 2016. A 30-year veteran, he served two combat tours in Iraq from February 2004 to March 2005 and from January to September 2006 where he was awarded the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
Respected and admired by his fellow Marines, Kevin was known for his selfless leadership, always ensuring the well-being of his comrades, and consistently providing guidance and support throughout the ranks.
Among his awards are the Meritorious Service Medal (5), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3), Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation (2), Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation (3), Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal (10), National Defense Service Medal (2), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with 2 stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (11), Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon (7), Marine Security Guard Ribbon, and multiple Certificates and Letters of Commendation/Appreciation.
A memorial visitation for Kevin will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Orland Funeral Home, 9900 W 143rd, Orland Park, IL 60462, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. The interment, featuring full military honors, will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. A hearse-led procession from the funeral home to the cemetery will lead to the commencement of the interment ceremony at 2:30 p.m.
