Mike was one of the most unselfish people I have ever known.  He was unselfish with his time and talents and his dedication to both Br. Rice and St. Xavier.  He was a dedicated coach and a consummate professional when it came to scorekeeping and statistics. He was totally dedicated to his craft. The young men he coached certainly benefited from his life-long lessons.  He was unselfish when it came to our friendship as well.   Whenever we were on a field or in a gym together, we always took time to catch up.  He was much more interested to know how I was doing rather than talk about himself.  A number of years ago, I was unable to cover one of our own football games.  I thought of Mike but I was hesitant to reach out to  Mike to take stats at a St. Laurence football game that did not involve Br Rice.  Before I could even get the words out of my mouth to ask him, he was quick to say he would have no problem covering the game.  Needless to say, the stats were perfect and he repeatedly declined my offer of financial compensation. I can only say that if he was this unselfish with his friends, colleagues and rivals, I know it was that way and much more with his family.  My deepest condolences to the entire Minervini family.  We have lost a legend.

To say that Mike Minervini had a positive impact on my life is an understatement. I had the honor to encounter Min during my time at Rice on the baseball, basketball, and football fronts. He was a voice of reason during a crucial time in life, the high school years. There was never a day where Min wasn’t booming with positive, engaging, and passionate energy. Legends like this only come around once, yet his impact will be generational. Heaven has gained an impeccable statistician.

Those who are close to the Chicago Catholic League know how competitive things can get at times causing a lack of perspective to what it is truly important in life and Catholic education. Mike never lost that perspective and was the warmest and most sincere person you could meet when you went on the road in the Catholic League.He also has no peer when it comes to his attention to detail,knowledge and professionalism as a statistician. He is a true legend that will never be replaced. RIP Mike and thank you for your friendship and the life you led!

I first met Michael when we both worked at the Chicago Transit
Authority and I was honored to meet such a fine Gentleman and become a friend, and a Gentleman is what Mike was.
My deepest sympathy goes out to the entire Minervini family at this very sad time and always.

A quiet man is like a river whose current runs deep.  In simple words and acts lives are made better, unknowns made clear.  
“Mike” was such a man whose beliefs and faith were so lived in all that he did. His gentleness and soft tones made what seemed impossible—  probable and plausible sometimes with love ‘s encouragement or humor. We will all miss that the most, those simple words so needed and wanted.

To walk on Earth and to be loved by all is the ultimate compliment.  Only a few people can have this statement said of them and Mike was the leader of this group. I will miss my friend . He epitomized everything that we strive to be. God, family, friends and giving back to society are the components that we should live our lives by.  No one excelled at these like he did. Coaching baseball at Brother Rice was a special time for me . Working with the student athletes and coaches was very rewarding. When I met Mike we hit it off immediately. We’re around the same age,  so his great sense of humor made my day seeing Mike.  He was a joy to be around. One day my daughter brought my granddaughter in her stroller to a game,she looked so cute like a little doll, Mike took one look at her and asked my daughter does she come with batteries? That was Mike,  love ya buddy,  I’ll miss you.

Coach Min was the best of the best. He always had the time to talk to every single player that had the opportunity to play Baseball at Br. Rice.  I feel that every player he came across will remember him for the rest of their lives. I will miss seeing him at the games dearly. He was a great man and a true friend. Rest In Peace  Coach Min.

Certainly a  sad day for the Crusaders.  Mike took such great pride in everything he did for Brother Rice, and we were so very proud of him, as well.  He was a class act from start to finish. His good heart was his calling card and his loyalty, a legacy that we should all strive to live up to.  He will be sorely missed. My sincere condolences to his family.  God bless him and keep him always. 

To say that Mike was unforgettable is an understatement.  We had so many experiences together in high school that shaped how we became adults that I still think about to this day.  Mike had a love of Motown music and WVON radio that amazed me.  He loved the Four Tops, Temptations,  and Marvin Gay so much and would even go into lyrics with me explaining why the music was so genius!  And of course, baseball was always a point of conversation.  Always.  Stats, history,  Mike was a conversationalist.  He was one of the few friends I had who was not afraid to talk with my Deaf parents.  I loved him.  My thoughts are with his family.  I know his is missed.  Rest in Peace Mike.  

As a long time Catholic League baseball umpire,  Mike would always be the first person to come and greet us, to fill out paperwork and to exchange small talk. How are you feeling,  how's the family,  anything new,  who have you seen that looks good,  etc. He was an absolute genuine delight and a tremendous person. This going back to when Tim Lyons was the head coach! Mike will be sorely missed, and my heart goes out to his family and to all of the Crusader Family! You have lost a legend, and I regret not being well enough to umpire this season and I missed a chance to see a friend, one more time 💔! R.I.P. my Friend,  I will see you again one day!

I would continue to manage the team for 7 more seasons and in the time that I managed, I always enjoyed seeing Mr Min and looked forward to the many stories he could tell and the many conversations we would have about life in general. Mike was absolutely the best.  I hope he always knew how much he meant to the coaches, staff members and kids he worked with over his long and illustrious career. The epitome of dedication. God bless Mike and his family.

I have officiated many times at Brother Rice and the first thing I would do is go and talk with Mike before each game. We talked about life and family and friends and he always made me feel great after our brief conversations. Mike has touched many people over the years, especially student athletes, and has helped them learn and get better each year. We are all very lucky to have had Mike as our friend. God Bless the Minervini Family.

Mike was a true gentleman and made each athlete he came in contact with feel special. His gift was recognized by all and he was deeply respected by parents, coaches, and athletes. We are saddened by his loss and our prayers are with the entire family.

My sincere condolences to the Minervini family. Mike always had a nice thing to say about my son Raymond Rubio.  We had some memorable times watching the Brother Rice basketball games and Mike was a important part of the team. You will be dearly missed my friend. God bless the Minervini family.

I went to Brother Rice for two years, '03 to '05. I played baseball & football. I worked hard but never really got the chance to play. Mike was always there encouraging me to keep at it. 

After I transfered to another school for my Jr and Sr years, we'd always play Brother Rice in the summer. And with playing them, also meant catching up with Mike. Even in another uniform, Mike still had nothing but smiles and encouragement for my on the field play and always made sure to ask me how I'm doing.

Looking back, the interactions I had with him were very brief, spaced out and simple conversations. They weren't deep or meaningful by any means but they had a very big impact on my life for the better.  

For that I will always grateful to him and his kindness.

I had known and loved Mike since the 1991-92 basketball season when I coached his son Mike, and that is when I met Mr. Min.  Mike was always prepared to tell a story or provide stats from some game that happened 15 years ago, and if you questioned him or doubted him, he would have proof that you were wrong the next time you saw him.  I can't imagine going to a Br. Rice game and not talking to Mike.  RIP Mike and prayers to the Minervini family!



On behalf of all of us t Brother Rice High School, we extend our condolences to Mike's family and friends. He was a beloved member of our Brother Rice community and will be missed. 

Mike and I scored more than 1000 games between Br. Rice and St. Xavier.  I will miss him dearly.  He was always fun to work with and knew every stat.  My prayers for Sandra and the family.  

Rest In Peace, Mike, my partner at the St. Xavier Basketball games for the last three years.  A true professional and a wonderful man, you will be missed by all who knew you.   My sympathy to your family and my gratitude for having known you.
