Survived by his wife of 61 years, Joanne (nee Shaughnessy) Keating; his children Kevin, Dan (Jane), Mike, and Tom (Heather); his grandchildren Amy, Emily (Kirk), Matt, Colin, Jack and Tommy; his brother Edward (Dorothy); his sisters-in-law Mary Keating and Paula Keating. Preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Catherine (nee Dowd) Keating and brothers Louis Jeremiah, John, and James.
Tom Keating grew up on Avenue G on the Southeast Side of Chicago. He was a proud alumnus of Leo High School and Chicago Teachers College. He was also a member of the Coast Guard Reserve. He had a 42-year career as a teacher and principal with the Chicago Board of Education, including 17 years as a teacher at Harvard Elementary School at the start of his career and 17 years as principal of Mark Twain Elementary School at the end of his career.
Tom loved his sports and his family. He was a loving husband, a proud father, and a devoted grandfather with his six grandchildren. He was a lifelong fan of the Cubs, Bears and Bulls, but he always preferred playing sports to watching them. In his younger days, basketball and softball were his favorites, but he gravitated to tennis and golf as he got older.
Tom was a "people person" who will be lovingly remembered by all of those who were a part of his life.
