On Monday, May 13, Al went to be with the Lord after a brave battle with lung cancer. He was born January 11, 1932 to Joseph and Laura Kreps in Michigan.
He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Peggy. They met and married while at Michigan Sate University. They graduated together in 1953. At this time Al also received his Air Force Commission through ROTC. Several months after this, he left for the Air Force leaving Peggy behind teaching Grand Rapids. He served in Air Force for two years at Port Austin, Michigan as an air traffic controller.
He left the Air Force for Mount Clemens and started his shoe career with his brother-in-law Jim Jensen. His next move was with Wolverine World Wide selling Hush Puppies shoes for 35 years in Florida until his retirement.
Al enjoyed golfing, bowling, poker with his buddies once a month and serving his church in many ways (usher, elder, congregation president, Board of Directors, Sunday School Teacher, Thrivent, MOPS, Good Samaritan Award, and cooking for many events like the Easter Breakfast for about 50 years). As a faithful disciple of Christ he devoted his life to his family, church and others.
He also leaves behind his four children Kim (Terri), Gary (Susan), Karen (Jeff), Helene (Doug), and nine grandchildren; Alison (John), Jeffrey (Allison), Kristen (Tristan), Randy (Jamie), Kevin (Misty), Eric, Kenny, Hunter, and Trey. He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren. He also leaves many loved friends who also loved him.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate Al's life on Saturday, June 15th, at 11:00 a.m. in the main sanctuary at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Orlando. Reception to follow in the Family Life Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Prince of Peace or a charity of your choice.
