
Arlin Martin Jr., aged 82, passed away April 21, 2017 at home surrounded in love by his family in Orlando, Florida. He was born September 1, 1934 in Butters, North Carolina to George Arlin Martin and Mary Alene Martin. He had two brothers: Billy Joe Martin and George Martin and three sisters: Helen Whiteman, Betty Willie(deceased) and Barbara Rogers. Arlin, also known as Marty was raised in Wilmington, North Carolina and at an early age joined the United States Air Force. He proudly served as a fireman and was involved during the Korean War. He met his wife, Mildred Ramer Martin, while stationed in Orlando and they were married June 7, 1957. They raised two sons: Tony Pritchard and Arlin Martin III and three daughters: Karen Edmondson, Marlene Clifton and Dina Walker. His profession was that of a sheet metal worker and he helped produce several known signs in the area. One of which is the original Christmas Star that hung in Downtown Orlando during the holidays and the Welcome to Orlando sign that is displayed as you exit the Orlando International Airport. He was very dedicated to his family and you would often find him either holding one of his grandchildren or cheering on one of his kids and grandkids during their many activities. His favorite breakfast was eggs and grits and he enjoyed sharing the meal with his family, especially those that were daddy daughter time. He was a member of the American Legion Post 286 and enjoyed helping at the many children parties they held. He had a love for James Bond and Western movies, Fishing, Dancing , Classic cars, Elvis Presley and other 50’s music. He was a big kid and loved comedy and magic shows. He was a big soft quiet teddy bear and was loved by all that met him. When he loved you, he wasn’t afraid to show it. A memorial service will be held 3:00 pm Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at The First Baptist Church of Taft located at 9284 2nd Ave, Orlando, Florida 32824. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Legion Post 286, 529 Fairlane Ave Orlando, Fl 32809 in his honor.
