He was born October 20, 1926, in Cumberland, Wisconsin to the late Adam and Katherine Klug, and along with 9 brothers and 1 sister, lived on the family farm in Almena, Wisconsin.
After graduating from high school, Gus enlisted in the Navy on November 16, 1944. He was a radar operator during World War II on the U.S.S. New Jersey and U.S.S. Solace, and was Honorably Discharged on May 3, 1946.
Gus moved to Penns Grove, New Jersey after marrying Mary Catherine Murphy to work at DuPont in Deepwater, NJ as a supervisor. He retired after a rewarding career and 35 years.
Gus and Mary moved to Winter Haven Oaks, Winter Haven, Florida in 1990, and enjoyed an active lifestyle until Mary's passing in 2000
In April 2002, Gus married Lynn Scott of Winter Haven. They described themselves as "newlyweds", and spent 22 happy years together and with blended family.
Gus found joy in traveling around the United States, attending many Klug Family Reunions, coordinating social activities for the residents of Winter Haven Oaks, as well as serving as board president.
He loved spending time with family, was proud of his children and grandchildren and kept up with their lives and accomplishments.
Gus is survived by his wife of 22 years, Lynn Klug; his daughters Mary Jo McKeon (Don), Denise Bunk (Tom); stepdaughters Laurel Lucas (Jim) and Leslie Sleepe; brother Paul Klug (Marilyn) of Dana Point, CA; grandchildren David Owens (Carol), Douglas Owens (Melissa), Sarah Bunk, Adam Bunk, Adam Lucas (Deanna), Hunter Lucas, Steven Cash, and Baylee Sleepe; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Gus was preceded in death by his son, James Klug, in 2003.
A celebration of Gus' life will be held October 22, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Chapel at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, located at 552 Avenue M N.W., Winter Haven, FL 33881. A reception will follow.
Service with Military Honors and inurnment will be held October 23, 2024 at 1:30 pm at Florida National Cemetery located at 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513.
Although Gus will be terribly missed, he lives on in love and good memories, which will be cherished by all.
