Dahl Allen Joseph Haskins, 76, died on December 31, 2022 at Cornerstone Hospice located in Health Central Hospital, in the city of Ocoee, Florida from complications of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Private memorials will be had at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Florida and Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona as per his wishes. Dahl’s Journey began on Monday, August 19, 1946, when he was born to the late Dahlia Drew Haskins and the late Clayton Haskins in New York City, New York. He was baptized at St. Mark the Evangelist Church and his graduation at Cardinal Hayes High School marked his culmination of Catholicism. In 1967, Dahl went on to meet his future wife, Mary Brooks, while working towards his goal of becoming a dedicated soldier and serving his country that he greatly loved at MacDill Air Force Base. They were married on September 5th, 1968 until the day their wedded union ended in death. Dahl and Mary were blessed with two children, the late Andre Carlton Haskins (born on December 29th, 1968) and Crystal Joy Mary Haskins (born on July 30th, 1978). Unfortunately, tragedy befell them with the loss of Andre on August 12th, 1993, but Dahl’s legacy continues through his daughter, Crystal.
Dahl’s patriotism was immense and although he was severely injured when he valiantly fought in Vietnam alongside the 101st Airbourne, leading to his early retirement, he never stopped contributing to the United States. He began his employment journey working for the United States Postal Service. Using the skills taught to him in the military, he joined their ranks as an Automotive Operations Specialist and through hard work and perseverance, reached the title of Postal Tour Superintendent for Morgan Postal Operations, located in the heart of New York City. He retired at the age of 65, and moved with his family to Orlando, Florida where his busy hands led him to work for SeaWorld Orlando. Dahl was a man that always felt the need to contribute to those around him and it reflected in his work acumen.
When he was not working, Dahl was highly invested in sports. He was known to play Baseball, Basketball and Football and when not playing those sports, would coach for the myriad of youth programs for inner city youth. He loved to travel with his family and loved Las Vegas, Nevada.
His family remembers him as a devoted and hard worker who never failed to provide for his family. He will be missed by those who he impacted throughout his life.
Dahl is survived by his loving wife, Mary and his only daughter, Crystal. They shall always remember him for the person that he was and wish him nothing but peace, love and happiness in the hereafter.
“May God Bless Him on his journey forward as he continues to protect us from beyond.”
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared for the Haskins family in the online guest book below.
